That's just because the thumbnail is warped to be a square, the actual decal doesn't change. That's why you should measure out the size you want the decal to be on a brick before you make it.

Decals do not stretch your image except for on the preview page on the website. If that is a problem, make your decals 256x256 pixels and it should look fine.
