Most people with potato cpus don't have a fancy Nvidai grapchics card.
Still support, since it will give advanced users better performance. |

Most people with potato CPUs probably don't know what CPU is.
But I would still support for the few that do. |

you have to realize that most people who play roblox either play on their phone (which usually dont have an nvidia gpu with physx), or on an old computer (which usually have intel integrated graphics or an amd gpu). how would this work if there's not a single player using an nvidia gpu that has physx support in a server? would physics just stop working? what would happen when one joined? would his computer be calculating EVERYTHING in the entire game?

@xxshadows
you're forgetting this: how many percentage of users actually have GPUs that have physx?
if it was 90% or 95%, this would sound like a good idea
but roblox is on phones, tablets, low end hardware, so it's less than 20%
would such a thing be worth adding when less than 20% of people can actually use it?
would all the hard work rewriting physics engine pay off?
would this be worth adding while there are many other things they need to add/fix?

you're ignoring the fact that many people don't have nvidia GPUs, you're not gonna find any physX support on samsung J1, or a kindle fire. most roblox players dont have "ultra high power gaming pcs" or a laptop with nvidia graphics like you might have, they have old computers with intel integrated graphics

yes, they may cost $20, but do you think every family sees it and goes "oh cool cpu with physx support 20 dollars lets change our son's computer gpu with this one"?
most cheap prebuilt PCs from 6 years ago have intel integrated graphics, new ones might have nvidia but the old ones dont. do you think every family is up to date with technology and buys a new prebuilt pc every year?
and dont forget about the mobile market either, it's large. do you think every single mom buys their son a new phone every year, one so expensive it has physx support?
if you want make a suggestion like this and argue saying its a good suggestion, at least do your research or ask a person at ROBLOX that has analytic data how many people have nvidia gpus, don't pull out random data out of your ### and say it's true

Vulkan is probably ROBLOX's best bet.
>multiplatform
>low cpu overhead
go look at doom (2016) benchmarks |

okay, so you had an old expensive laptop. good for you. does this mean every roblox player has an expensive laptop from 2008?

ITT: Jealous users angry because they bought a Macbook and it can't even play ROBLOX at 60 FPS.
Anyway, I support. This would help out anyone that can take advantage of the technology, especially the people who bought an Alienware "gaming" computer for 500 bucks and got some piece of crap with a GT 740 inside. |

physx is old and proprietary |

listen mate you dont seem to get it, i'll explain in one post OP
nvidia gpus are required for PhysX
not everybody has a nvidia gpu, so they can't use physX
physX on a non-nvidia gpu causes lag or just wont work at all
so basically: this would void most mobile players, all players who use amd gpus, all players who use intel HD
do you see the problem now? |

@Internedfdsfdfgh
i hope that isnt a serious post lmao
1 - AMD makes high end gpus as well
2 - any non-nvidia gpu lags the hell out with physx, and since roblox doesnt use advanced graphics settings, anyone with amd/intel graphics is basically screwed if they want to use high settings |

And its still more efficient than most physics engine's. Altough I dont think that physx supports lua, but idk.

Who says that Physx is an requirement to play this game? you are still able to switch to the old physicx in the settings (The setting will actually be usefull now.).
Physx also supports higher framerates as its not tied to the fps you get, so people could actually play on higher hz screens.
Physx would only be better for roblox, I dont see any downfalls. (Maybe problems with older games, but we'll see, maybe next year's hackweek). |
|
|
I don't understand the OP's infatuation with physx considering there are a number of much more modern apis that can be used universally.
FYI, AMD makes incredible discrete and integrated GPUs and Intel has the low end market cornered. |

@idi
roblox is designed to be simple to children (hence the simple graphics slider) who most likely won't understand what physx is, so that just creates unnessecary complications
it's better if we kept to the graphics slider, which means no physx to let all PCs play the game at high settings
also btw, yes, most nvidia gpus DO support physx, but the low-end ones don't handle it very well, so even if you were on a potato pc, there'd be a tiny performance boost |
