VIP recruiting isn't bad. It's good. But a clan built on it is bad. What does that mean? I'm talking about a clan which has no real community, just some rich LMaDer owned who VIP recruits and gets people to join his clan. Usually these guys will hire some C&Gers as H## ### then let their clan slowly die off and either sell it or simply hold a dead clan.
Clans which already have a nice and stable community should VIP recruit, the VIP recruited will have something to join and they'll stick around. Social circles are-- to an extent, a good thing.
I'm talking about historic clans like VS, UAF or WIJ. Or even more recent clans with solid communities like Arvorian Confederation or Frigid.
Clans where there's an established community and isn't just an LMaDer playing around with clans are the ones who should be VIP recruiting.
When a clan with an established community VIP recruits, a new player will come in, learn the ropes of this new clan, see the history of the great clan and join in with some more experinced clanners who will be their comrades, not just their superiors. And eventually, they'll become part of the clan community as they see just how wonderful, fun and tight knit clans can be
Meanwhile, in these "insta-super clans" you'll have new people joining a clan from a VIP game, but when they join they see weak leadership, are thrown into generic RCL or SFing training ground by a experienced clanner with a lengthy resume who may or may not care about the clan. They won't really know anyone. They probably won't in the clan with an established community either, but no one will know anyone. Everyone is new, There'll be an awkward silence instead of the good old seasoned veteran who tells you some joke and how to be successful. The closest thing to a role model you'll find is some clanner who got auto promoted to his rank in hopes of being a HR in 'the next big thing'. Not really a role model, they care about the power. Not the clan.
So the new person sees this in clans. Being thrown into a RCL map by a arrogant host, not seeing the leader active at all and when he is he's weak and knows nothing about clans, no real sense of community, and no real attempt at having fun. They're surrounded by other people who joined for VIP in a game, by other people in similar positions to themselves, rather than a long time community which wants to incorporate them.
They are waiting to be incorporated, but have no one to help them get incorporated in the community
Soon enough, they'll just think all clans are like that. Either once they decide to leave or when the instaclan dies off, with a negative impression of the clan world, they leave clans alltogether.
VIP recruiting is a positive to the clan world, yes, but before you do it you need a good community. I'm tired of certain members of the old guard saying that VIP recruitment is an end all solution to the clan world's problems. Don't get me wrong, it can be, but certainly not in the way we practice it.
So what do we need?
Historic clans to follow the likes of FEAR and RAT by making their own VIP games, and also we need to discourage LMaDers and other rich people from simply making a clan and throwing money at it |

VIP recruitment is very effective, but if a war game vip recruits, theyre gonna have more fun, making the clan better.
if you do "adopt and raise a cute kid" they join for benefits

VIP recruitment can get you lots of members, but not many will be active or be interested in the clan in general.
There are WAY more effective methods of recruitment. |

You just need to be creative. I've experimented with lots of different unique methods. Some of which I made up myself. |

VIP recruitment actually is good, because for those few whom are active, once the clan dies or they tire of it, they've taken a liking to clans, and then they go on to join other clans and gradually become seasoned clanners.
It's how 90% of us currently on C&G were brought into the community.

I can't do much of my recruitment methods, because they are demanding on my PC which is pretty broken right now. I can't load up studio.
We bring in plenty of people into the clan world. Most of my HRs joined TCD as their first clan and had their first clan experiences with us. |

Kroxon introduced me to clans and has been a guiding figure for me. I owe much of my success to Kroxon.
I'm highly respected in clans now, but my roots fall with TCD and Kroxon mostly. |
