in an ideal world, i'd have a syscall for anything either the NT family, linux/bsd, or haiku has. Such that it's not particularly hard to write a 'subsystem' to 'emulate' those other OSes, they run in a wrapper to the native API just like Windows does with Win32, except FAR more flexible it would be a MS-DOS-like OS, with the shell being basically CMD.EXE but good and modern and able to stand toe-to-toe with bash, be built for multi-user stuff, be multitasking, etc. etc. the user interface would resemble something like... how do I put this. Crysis on the desktop. There. Think about that. It works great. The OS would come pre-loaded with drivers to support generic USB controllers, and let those controllers map to common mouse/keyboard combinations, etc. etc. Built specifically for wiping the floor with Windows with gaming performance, bonus points if we can have Linux run as a user-mode process on this OS, so there wouldn't need to be any fake subsystem for Linux. harbynger@roblox:~$ sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root && echo "Get slam jammed, kid!"

I'm dead serious about actually wanting to go out and write jarvis or vision or something like that. Something so complex it wipes the floor with Community Sift in complexity lol, but for a totally different reason... more about 'emulating the structure of the brain and building a sort of virtual personality'. Totally different from Cortana, not a virtual assistant, totally different from Sift, it's not Big Brother... it's uhhh Yeah. A program that maybe can just well, understand you. If you know what I mean. Not like robot girl, LOL NO FAR FROM THAT, I mean something that can just play games with you and stuff and talk to and whatever. I have problem I solve it One way or another, and I build a solution. Buying or doing 'the normal way' is stupid. harbynger@roblox:~$ sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root && echo "Get slam jammed, kid!"

i don't think the technology for that level of a procedural AI will be around for a while tho i have this odd feeling that a bunch of MIT people have been working on it since like 2002 lmao - your friendly neighborhood medical nerd

I do think such a being is possible if you were to make it the whole operating system as well actually, Linux or BSD or whatever OS isn't in the way because the AI's 'subconcious' IS the operating system. The problem is that GPUs have too few cores at too high clock speeds. We need hardware with billions of cores and very slow clock speeds. Bonus points if it doesn't even have a central clock and all the cores can have different clock speeds. so we would have to emulate that structure and that already seems complicated harbynger@roblox:~$ sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root && echo "Get slam jammed, kid!"

If we take the VMS approach and build an OS where the whole thing is sort of like a virtual machine where software running on the OS is totally oblivious to the actual hardware -- any structures that don't exist in hardware are emulated in software for example... technically we could get away with anything, it's just that it wouldn't be particularly fast. harbynger@roblox:~$ sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root && echo "Get slam jammed, kid!"

#208002865Monday, January 23, 2017 5:11 AM GMT

The problem with that then... is that they would be god-awful with thought processing and have very poor problem solving skills and all. (because it has to use more maths to convert signals intended for hardware not present into something the rest of the hardware can, which == performance loss and time spent doing something on some other system that wasn't intended to do it.) I suppose more research needs to be done understanding how the structures of the brain actually work... particularly what makes a subconscious and a consciousness tick. Unfortunately the brain doesn't ship with a debugger or development kit, let alone a compiler soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo harbynger@roblox:~$ sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root && echo "Get slam jammed, kid!"

'can run everything windows can without the bloat, should be super fast <3' We call that ReactOS :) It's getting there, someone will probably make a #### ## it and remove all the Windowsy bloat at the cost of a couple incompatibilities. harbynger@roblox:~$ sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root && echo "Get slam jammed, kid!"

My ideal operation system is one that uses little-to-no energy thus not requiring the need for such robust cooling systems... A system that automatically cools oneself at a small temperature. One that is unique in design...

Yeah, ReactOS is still in very early alpha, and it only runs Windows programs that any UNIX can via "grape juice". It's getting there though, ReactOS was able to run ROBLOX just fine. harbynger@roblox:~$ sudo rm -rf / --no-preserve-root && echo "Get slam jammed, kid!"

Yncubus You're so wrong on what I was speaking about. Technology is endless, and yet we are idiots who can't figure out the best computers in the world... They already exist. The question is how long will it take us to figure them out?
