The amendment that states we are allowed to carry arms is percieved differently. For example, some people just think it means they have the right to carry a gun. period. On the other hand, this was made back where the weaponry was far less advanced. So, they think it may mean you have the right to carry knives and a hunting rifle instead of all types of weaponry.
There's been debating going on and on, but they aren't removing that amendment in the U.S. |

The only way someone would be pointing a gun at you is because they could just stroll in any random shop in the US and buy one. In America, you can buy guns INSTANLY on E-bay. That's what the "Virginia Tech shooter" did. Then Americans overreacted because he was from Korea. It's best not to let civillians carry around guns. |

The problem with the anti-gun argument is that they revolve around the premise that guns encourage crime; which is an absurd statement. You do not punish the weapon for the crime, you punish the shooter.
People who are for gun control see guns almost as an independent, sentient being. They believe that guns literally "control" the holder, and as such, "force" them to crime. I know it's clichéed, but guns don't kill people -- people kill people. You get rid of guns, you get something else.
When you take the argument of deaths into gun crimes, you have to keep in mind that in the US, the statistics are as follows:
In 1999, 58% of all gun deaths were suicides, and 38% were homicides.

Chris Oats, an article writer, puts it like this:
In 1911 Turkey established gun control. Subsequently, from 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, deprived of the means to defend themselves, were rounded up and killed.
In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents were arrested and executed.
In 1938 Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945 over 13 million Jews, gypsies, ho.mose.xuals, mentally ill, union leaders, Catholics and others, unable to fire a shot in protest, were killed by the state.
In 1935 China established gun control. Between 1948 and 1952, over 20 million dissidents were rounded up and murdered by the Communists.
In 1956 Cambodia enshrined gun control. In just two years (1975-1977) over one million "educated" people (about 1/3 of the entire population!) were executed by the Reds.

So much for keeping our guns if we register them. On the other hand, lenient gun laws mean less crime. In Switzerland, all males from the ages of 20 to 42 are required to have guns. The Swiss have almost no murders and a very low crime rate!
Some people say that the police are our protection therefore, we don't need guns. Here is where basic math comes into play. There are 271,933,702 people living in the United States. Currently, there are about 150,000 police officers on duty at any one time. This is on-duty police. This includes desk clerks, command sergeants, etc. - far fewer than 150,000 cops are cruising your neighborhood. Thus there is only one on-duty cop for every 1,813 citizens!

Very very very intellegent post. I would also like to mention the fact that Mexico has gun controll laws yet the drug cartel's are stilling killing innocent civillians they deem as a threat to their buisness. If you armed the civilians they would be able to fight back! |
