Many other sites and services have it, and some people may not want to be bothered. It is a pretty basic thing to implement.

sure, but you can also block people from contacting you in your privacy options

Yesterday, people I know irl found me in game, even when I had my privacy so no one can contact me or join me. It made for a pretty awkward and embarrassing day at school...
