"Nu metal is a relatively mainstream subgenre." Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbut 500 million Its more than any nirvana song, any queen song, etc. Like these are bands that id hear way more about than system of a down, yet some way they got this extremely popular song searching up the song doesnt really give any good info on why it just shouldnt be as huge as it is and it really bothers me lol

Considering Chop Suey blew up through means of mainstream media: Games, Youtube, MTV, etc. it's no surprise. Song is years old but I genuinely liked it back then.

It has 500 million views the same way that Metallica albums debut at number 1. There are certain metal bands and songs that garnered major mainstream appeal. Chop Suey is a song that gathered a lot of mainstream momentum, and at this point, also is a point of nostalgia for a lot of people who hopped on the nu metal wagon.
