AFL Rule Book: Team/Roster Rules: - If teams have 5 or more, 5v5 must be played. If a team has 6+, you must play 5v4. - Signing only occurs when both team owner and player agree to terms, trades only occur when all team owners in the trade agree to terms and releasing occurs when team owner states who he releases. - Draft picks can be traded. - Drafting signing rights is allowed. Game Play: - 4 quaters each quater is 6 minutes. - 4 downs, FD = 10 yards - Teams are given 3 time outs per half **Words Refs need to know** KO: Kickoff (Referee approval of kicking the ball) PC: Play Clock (Referee approval of offense hiking the ball) KWR: Kick When Ready (Referee approval of the kickoff happening) OTO: Official Time Out (Referee timeout to discuss a call or malfunction during a game) Overtime: - No onsides in OT. - 1 period of OT, (6 minutes long), NFL OT rules: - If A team scores a TD, the game is over and team B loses. - If A team scores a FG#######m###s a possession to tie or win. - If A team lets up a safety, the game is over and team B wins. - If A team throws a pick and the B team kicks a FG##r gets a TD, team B wins. - If it is in regular season and OT ends still tied, it will go into the standings as a tie. - If it is in playoffs and OT ends still tied, another OT will be added until the game is decided. - Auto Punt is applied in OT. Special Teams: - Kick offs are done at the 50. Receiving team cannot go past their 40 - Away team chooses heads or tails before regulation or OT. Home team chooses what side they defend and it switches at half time. - 2 onsides are given to per team for the WHOLE game. - Onsides can be kicked whenever your team is down by 2 TDs or the 4th Quarter. - Onsides MUST go ATLEAST 10 yards, may go up to 15-20+ due to flags. - Line of scrimmage on PATs/2pt is at the 10 yard line, PAT kicker cannot be past the 30 yard line. Offense: - Snap count is allowed, QB can say “Hike” as many times, but the QB can not move. - Double Pa####s##llowed once in the game. - QB may rush three times a quarter. - A WR cannot receive the ball if they voluntarily run out of bounds and comeback in. If they are jammed out of bounds by a CB then they can still receive a pass once back on the playing field. - A WR must touch the ground for it to be ruled complete, if a WR catches it in air and lands out of bounds it is incomplete. - It is not pass interference if the QB does not pass to the WR that committed the penalty. - The ball can be caught anyway. You have a choice to either jump, dive, or not jump at all the catch the ball. This also applies for the defense/cornerbacks. Defense: - Defensive pass interference can be called by referees. Depending on the look of contact during a live ball. - Rushers cannot drop tackles to bring down a QB. - The ball can be caught anyway. Flag Amounts: Offsides - 5 yards - Player is lined up on wrong side of line of scrimmage after hike is called. Pass Interference - 10 yards - Blocker tackles Rusher 5 yards from the LOS - WR tackles CB - CB tackles WR Illegal Put Ball Away – Auto Down -Player puts ball away during the middle of a player 2 Balls - Dead Play - The offense has 2 balls out when hike is called. Warnings: - Players are given warnings by referees for complaining, insulting, etc. After one warning you are subject to ejection. - Referees have ALL rights to skip warning if it is drastically needed. - You are subject to suspension if you are ejected from a game.
