Get your crap together NHL. Intentionally spearing a guy's eye with a stick deserves at least twice that. It's so funny to hear the league's officials talk about the importance of player safety when nothing receives the punishment it deserves anymore. There was the time McDavid literally got a temporary ejection just because he fell on the ice on his chin and people thought he'd have a serious brain injury. Now there's Nyquist getting the sports equivalent of a burglary charge for homicide.

The NHL should rethink its double standard on contact to the head. I'm beginning to notice a trend here with intentional stick-to-head contact (DuncanKeith on Charlie Coyle / Gustav Nyquist on JaredSpurgeon) getting less games of suspensions than body-to-head contact (JS28 on Loui Eriksson / James Wisniewski on Cal Clutterbuck). Note that body-to-head contact can easily be just an accident/bad timing and positioning, even when the person in question may be a repeat offender. What Keith and Nyquist did is literally assault with a weapon. In fact, this is exactly what happened when Marty McSorley took a baseball swing at Donald Brashear's head in 2000.
