They switched to a format that makes more sense. They reduced it to 32 teams and FINALLY GOT RID OF THE ####ING DUMB "FOUNDING TEAM" QUALIFICATION. All of the teams are going to qualify via on-ice performance. Only thing that's missing now is KHL participation and that's supposedly coming in the future. This is where the 2017-18 tournament's teams will be coming from: 5 each from Finland and Sweden 4 each from the Czech Republic and Switzerland 3 each from Germany and the EBEL (Austrian league which has 4 foreign teams) 1 each from Britain, Slovakia, France, Norway, Denmark, Belarus, and Poland 1 from winning the Continental Cup Sweden already has Frölunda as one of their five representatives for winning the 2016-17 tournament. Britain is also listed as having the Nottingham Panthers as their representative since they won the Continental Cup, but it's unclear whether or not there will be a second British team after the league season there ends. It's even more unclear who's getting the 32nd spot if only Nottingham is allowed to represent Britain, but if we picked the best-placed league in the Continental Cup that's unrepresented in the CHL to begin with it'd go to Kazakhstan.

id imagine continental cup winner is an add on, so it'd be league winner from britain (id assume) plus nottingham for winning the cc

That's what I'm hoping it is, but Wikipedia has Nottingham as the British representative solely because they won the Continental Cup and it implies that they're replacing whoever wins the domestic league for some reason. The spot that should be reserved exclusively for CC is a "TBA", and there's a second "TBA" there too because the Wikipedia page forgot the Polish league's representative which is mentioned on the league's official site. What would they do in the event that Nottingham also wins the British league title? I'm imagining that they'd add the league's runners-up but that would probably be impractical since the British league is arguably the worst league that's represented to begin with.

Just noticed that a more recent post on the CHL site about the new format doesn't mention Poland at all, and doesn't mention the British league even though it mentions the Nottingham Panthers winning the Continental Cup, but when you click for more information about the format it still has the original plan that I posted. Now I'm confused as ####

So upon checking the Czech and German language wiki pages for the 2017-18 tournament it does seem to be saying that Britain will have two teams because Nottingham won the Continental Cup. Those pages also mention a spot being confirmed for the champions of Poland.

I will start a riot if Britain doesn't get two teams.
