There's quite a bit to roleplaying, on any platform. Personally, I use an app called Amino to roleplay online, but I understand many people do so on Roblox as well. So, in a bout of good will, I will explain the various methods (and styles) in which you can roleplay effectively. I will also highlight the pros and cons of each of them, and where they would ideally be used. | | | | | One Liner This is a fairly simple version of roleplaying. It's quick, it's fast, and it doesn't require much effort. However, it leaves too much to the imagination, and someone could easily misinterpret what you are trying to do. It is best to do very basic actions with this. You are allowed to use either asterisks*, hyphens-, or the very rare forward/ slash/. Ex. *Punches you in the face* -Punches you in the face- //Punches you in the face// As you can see, it has its ups and downs. It's fast and easy, but is also very basic and boring. There are multiple ways to actually type out the actions, but they're all going towards the same objective. If you only have one word in your actions, you're lower than a One Liner; You're a One Worder. | | | | | Semi-Literate Allow me to put emphasis on SEMI, which means half. Half literate, semi literate. They're the same thing. This is for people who are willing to put a bit more time, and effort, into each of their actions. This format is NOT DONE IN SYMBOLS!!! You will not use asterisks*, hyphens-, or the forward/ slash/. Dialogue, or speech, will be placed in quotation marks. Everything else will be left alone. Each message is worded like an excerpt from a story, in 3rd person. Ex. Tatsuo stood up from the ground, proceeding to dust off his jump suit afterwards. "It appears we have company to the Southwest." He alerted his cell members, making sure they were aware of the increasing danger. If things were to get out of hand, he'd distract the enemy for his friends' retreat. They felt dangerous, teeming with energy. Could they take them on? This takes time, but is much easier to type out than if you had symbols. NOT RECOMMENDED for battle games where a random player could harm you. | | | | | Literate This is the highest ranking form of roleplay, which is easily determined by the pure length of each message. It is not viable in a gaming setting, and is aimed more towards blogs. They length itself is too much for an in-game message, unfortunately. You can try discord while gaming, but either way a blog is easier. Literacy means to be able to read and write, and that means grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Here are some examples of ways you SHOULD NOT BE TYPING LIKE: He moves with speed, and he jumps in the air, he comes down and attacks with a punch, he-- (( JUST NO!!! This isn't proper punctuation, and will not be accepted as even semi-literate. Use periods to separate sentences, and make sure to add spaces after commas. Let's continue. )) Their was-- (( Right off the bat, you lose literate rating because you used the wrong word. It is "There", not "their". )) There are numerous other ways to mistype a message meant to be literate. Misusing punctuation, misspelling, and also messing up grammatical structure will also lower you into semi-literacy, or even lower than that! Make sure to proofread your messages, otherwise the other person, or other people, will have to decipher it. That could take a lot of time, and no one wants to spend 30 minutes waiting for a reply. Now we'll go into a solid piece of literate roleplay. Ex. Tatsuo looked in the distance, between the gaps in the tree line. Through them, shifting shadows danced like a flame would at night. They were quick, not the gentle shift that nature would produce. This meant only one thing to Tatsuo: Enemies. He stands up, quickly becoming a stiff pole of rigor, and anxiety. He had to alarm everyone to the incoming threat. This could only be done via voice or sign. He turns 180 degrees, immediately bolting for his comrades far behind where his location was. He pushes roughly with a leg to launch himself into the air. As he looks down, a kunai with an explosion tag marked where had been. As he lands onto a tree branch, the kunai explodes. The heat waves lash out at Tatsuo's skin, as if he were next to a bonfire. He begins to tree jump rapidly to escape the heat, and his pursuers. Once he gets a larger gap between him and the enemy, he spots Akane. She had her weapon at the ready, but relaxed as she saw Tatsuo. He could see her visibly tense up suddenly, but he had no time to react. He felt the blow of the enemy's foot against his head, and then his word span upside-down. Before he knew it, he was on the ground with a heavy foot to his back, and Akane was being knocked to the ground as well. 'Are they taking use prisoner?' He thought to himself, pondering the chances of their survival. "Are these the ones boss-man wanted?" The man, he assumed, hissed. The voice was tied to the man standing on him. "Yes." The other one holding Akane replied. It sounded female, vaguely. She had a small frame like Akane, so it was logical. They were capturing us?! | | | | | As you can see, each one has its ups and downs. Let's summarize those pros and cons. One Liner Pros: Short, easy, and useful in games with combat. Cons: Basic, lacking detail, and very boring. Semi Lit. Pros: More detail, and still able to be done in games. Cons: Not ideal for combat games, or for lazy people with poor literacy skills. Literate Pros: Extremely detailed, and is easy to read. Cons: Unable to be used in games, and takes a good amount of time, and effort to compose. | | | | | HOPE THIS GUIDE HELPS EVERYONE!!!
