EXPECTATION: I expect ALL Members and assistant directors to read this lecture, to be ready for the fun activity we will do on it the day after.
Vitals, Lecture 1, Fun activity date: Tomorrow (Thursday)
Section I:
The Four Vitals -
1. Temperature - The average temperature is 98.5-98.7. Anything above is considered a fever and may mean another illness. Anything below may be a symptom of hypothermia. Use a thermometer to check someone's temperature.
2. Blood pressure - The average human blood pressure is 120/80. Anything below that is low blood pressure, which means you might pass out alot, be fatigued, meaning you are unhealthy. Anything above is also unhealthy, meaning you have high blood pressure, which gives higher risk of Cardiovascular Disease. Blood pressure can be found by putting a cuff on someone's upper arm.
3. Respiratory - The average Breaths Per Minute is 12-20 for humans. Things that may make you breathe less or more than that a minute are asthma, anxiety, pneumonia, congestive heart failure, lung disease, use of ########## or #### ######### Finding a breaths per minute in a person requires the person to be resting and not breathing heavily from exercise. Then just count how many times the person's chest rises and falls during that minute.
4. Pulse - The average beats per minute (bpm) in a human is 60-100 per minute. Anything higher or lower is an irregular heartbeat. Anything lower could mean you might have an artery blockage. Anything both higher and lower could mean heart failure. Count your heart beats for 10 seconds then multiply by 6 to find your pulse.
When to use these vitals -
When a patient comes into the ER without an exact reason, always find their vitals first. Usually the nurses do it.
Say you finished as a reply to this document so I can know who read it for who will be allowed to participate in the activity.
