You could rent a hat for half of the normal price, maybe less, and keep it for a week. After a week, the hat gets taken away, maybe the same with gear, but im not sure

Pointless for Hat renting. It's just a mesh on your charecter's head. A Gear, however, has damage and such people might find helpful or not. (But rent only makes no sense, and rent only hats make it worse.) -VII
