The Western Frontier is a genre that is set in the 1700's. Where warring factions vie for control of the fur trade in a ruthless game of wealth and power. However fur is not the only option to wealth. Here is a list of other options,
-All factions are allowed to call up arms against their rivals. Their reasoning can be anything, either that is a key fort in trade to controlling a town.
-Other enterprises in towns, either that be arms dealing to construction. The only thing limiting you to what you want to start is your imagination. However, it must be approved.
-You have the option to become a brigand, you can recruit anyone into your band of thieves. You can attack convoys to steal their goods, or to capture the men and ransom them. Note: You're actually able to capture a certain player, they not be allowed to do anything in their faction until ransomed, escaping, or being set free. Once again your imagination limits you.
These are only three other options, if you haven't guessed yet, our main rule is "only your imagination limits you". This applies to this as well.
-The World Map-
The map of the frontier has all major cities, forts, and towns. However the player is able to found camps, forts, and their own towns if they have the resources. Each settlement can have an income, however be careful, for they can also waste your gold. On the map, depending on your status, you will have a band of followers. Either that be soldiers or thieves, they will be visible on the map. You will be able to move this group wherever you want, however it will take time.
Ports and other enterprises are also visible. Routes and other goods are also visible so players can decide where they want to go in order to get what goods they want. However be careful, for if you cross into territory you do not own, you may be attacked.
-Conflicts-
Conflicts in the Western Frontier genre are unique. We allow both actual players attacking each other at their settlements or battlefields to NPC soldiers attacking.
How does that work you ask?
Well, depending on your status you are able to recruit soldiers from all kind of settlements. Either that be enterprises, or major cities. Now these NPC soldiers won't actually be in-game, but it will have an army and the number of soldiers in it. Please remember that LL ( Lencester's Lew, changed for censorship ) applies here.
Simplified version: "If you outnumber an enemy, yours will crush theirs because you lose less while they lose more".
Putting it in better terms, if you have 30 soldiers and they are attacked by a band of 100 soldiers. Now of course, you are outnumbered nearly 3:1. So it's obvious you will not win this battle. You will lose all 30 men, while they would only lose 5-10. This is because more than two soldiers would be focusing on your own. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
-Technology-
Everyone is able to research or earn new technology they may not have. This can better their movement speed on the map, better weapons/armor, economical support, etc. You can trade technology, force a technology out of a weaker opponent, choose one after you win a war, or research it the old fashioned way by using gold from your treasury.
-Factions-
Currently there are only three factions.
-Frontier Companies
-Native Americans
-British Crown
The Frontier Companies have no limit to what they can be named, or where they can be located, etc. But it must be approved. There are already official historical companies that can be available depending on the time. Each company can recruit soldiers, set up camps/enterprises, attack others, set up trade deals or even towns them selves. They will have a daily gold income and a treasury to keep track of their gold.
Native Americans have a limit to their names, they must be historical. It is most likely we already have the tribes you're thinking of if you wish to create one, so always check just to be sure. Same with the Frontier Companies, they have daily gold and a treasury. They are also allowed to trade with other tribes and companies.
The British Crown is the only country currently in the Frontier genre. It has a king, an army, and citizens/merchants. Merchants are able to set up enterprises, or deal with others to earn a profit. They are able to become owners of companies as time progresses as they earn more and more profit. The British Crown is the law in the colonies, meaning they will regulate all trade, create laws, and enforce them. But of course you don't have to follow those regulations and laws! ; )
We have a right to refuse all potential tribes/companies for whatever reason.
That is all for now, however we as a group and staff are always trying to think of new ideas to help the genre grow. If you have your own then don't be afraid to voice them!
