The aspect of a "war score" does not matter, it is the actual performance or like Jaffs said, the endurance of the war that truly matters. But whatever the winning aspect is matters as well, so War Score does pose a bit of value there.

I don't even think it needs to be a definite war score. If they keep the losing pace then people will leave regardless.
