The longest-tenured Oiler is now gone and we're getting Strome from the Islanders in return. I'll still be wearing your jersey to Oilers games. I'll miss you.

was a good player but simply had to go because of cap space in the future

and it's not like strome is bad either, although it's a bit funny how he's a bigger player than ebs yet somehow more injury-prone. on the short term it's still a downgrade to the offense, but the long term might be different.

on a REALLY bright side, strome is $3.5M cheaper

I can see Strome playing on MCDAVID'S wing and becoming a consistent 20 goal scorer

Literally why are people comparing this to the Hall trade? The Hall trade was bad because, even though #6 has been one of the Oilers' two best defensemen along with Russell, the Oilers could have gotten a LOT more than just one guy who was almost unknown outside of New Jersey, even though the Oilers desperately needed a defenseman who would actually bother to defend instead of playing as a 4th forward. Meanwhile everybody with a brain knows that the Ebs trade is just about even and benefits both teams in different ways. Nobody can even be considered to have won or lost this trade with what they got and gave up.

Agreed, Cap, but NJ probably recognized that and wouldn't give up a very good defensive prospect, who, as yet, had not done much, for anyone less than Hall recognizing Edmonton's need for him. This one was more completely out of necessity than a ballsy move by PC
