Re-Elect Mrcps11222 to County Council “Progressing Ever Forward” Greetings citizens of Firestone, I know that many of you may not know me very well so allow me to introduce myself. I have been a member of the county government for quite some time. I began my career as the County Secretary, a job somewhat similar to a chief of staff. As County Secretary I worked under multiple County Executives and played an important part in building up relations with the State government and working to define the role of District Attorney. After this period I was elected to the county council where I wrote and sponsored legislature to create entities like the Executive's cabinet and County Committees. During my time in the county I worked with all of the Executives the county has ever had. To this day maintain respect and working relations for these devoted servants who I am honored to consider colleagues. Over this time I have become a key player in county function do to my influential role in the establishment of committees and the county cabinet. So for those of you who are wondering why you should send me back to the county council here are some things I hope to do: State-County Relations: I have spent much of my career working to improve the relation between the State and County governments. In my second term I would reach out to members of congress to propose legislation at both our levels of government. I have worked with the state before and understand the deference the county should show to them but do not think that this must make it difficult for the state and county to work together. Additionally not all county departments have appropriate means of learning and following the wishes of their county level counterparts. This is especially true of the District Attorney's office which could benefit from more state level guidance as they must work in accordance with the state level courts. The DA functions well now but could be improved if some state level officials helped on there end, of course I can’t make them do this but I believe that the State is willing to help if they are made aware of problems by the county. Committees: Committees are a relatively new Idea that I helped create during my early days in the council. They have recently seen some troubles and some committees are in desperate need of reform. Due to my role in creating them I am uniquely able to help the committees that are in need of reform. I promise to pass legislation to reform committees in danger especially they city committee which has upset mayors and needs to be far more accommodating to those it should represent and potentially should allow mayors to opt out of it’s work, a request that mayors have already made. The Cabinet: The County Executive Advisory Branch, Commonly known as the “county cabinet” is one of my proudest achievements. Because I began my career in the cabinet I am one of the county officials with the most experience working with advisors. If I am lucky enough to be reelected I will pass legislation to expand and strengthen the Cabinet to suit not only the needs of the executive but the county as a whole. This will entail not only granting them a larger role in the county but enforcing some of the lesser know regulations already in place. Of course many of these changes will be done only with the advice and consent of the Executive Public Relations: One of my very first acts in county council was trying to reform our public relations system. Unfortunately this failed but as I have come to better understand county government I have devised a new and more effective approach. The county has used both prepared speeches/letters and outreach events for our public relations in the past. While the speeches and letters were never very effective the outreach events were far more successful. Because of this knowledge I have acquired during my term, I will promise to pass legislation to reorganize the PR department to emphasize these events instead of prepared letters and speeches. Working with Colleagues: I pride myself on my ability to work well with colleagues even if we disagree.Although I consider myself a democrat I have worked with members of the council regardless of party or political views. As I mentioned before, I worked under all of the CE’s we have ever had, and despite the great variety in the views of each individual I have had a great relation with each of them. Although I consider a good relation between colleagues very important, I don't consider this to limit healthy debate which is essential for the functioning of a legislative body. I voted alongside my colleagues in support of legislation making it easier to debate over controversial legislation and hope to pass new laws making it easier for the public to be aware of, and involved with, our debates. I hope that you will consider re-electing me so that I may continue to work alongside my colleagues to make the county the best it can be which will benefit the state of firestone as a whole.
