There should be a follow button next to the add friend button when you press escape onto the Players Tab. Some games have custom leaderboards so you can't give people a follow in the game, you have to go to their profile and press follow. For Example MM2, It has a custom leaderboard but there's no way to follow or friend anyone. You can only add friend when you press escape and go to the Players Tab. Following people would be easier to those games with custom leaderboards.
