My Avatar not updating

when i go over to the players tab in game it shows my character. However when i change the look of my avatar and look at the tab again (i left the game in between changes) it still shows my old character(the default male avatar). has anyone experienced this issue and if so how do you fix it?

sorry if i was not clear enough what i meant is when i go to players tab it still shows my default male character after i made changes to it>

i did wait a few minutes leave games multiple times this issue has been happening for a week.
