you gotta look to where the bullets go while the target is using cover to give more information but since they were both really close so it wouldnt be all that hard to hit every shot...

He actually misses some shots when you first pop out, but he completely drains you after you jump out.

Looks like he toggled it after you jumped out from cover. Looks really sketchy. He did miss a few shots, but pretty much drained you big time.
