Set a goal, something a little beyond what you can accomplish now. Learn how to reach that goal by looking at the wiki, checking out free models (careful not to load one with a harmful script though), looking at Youtube videos and asking questions on this forum. It's better to learn from your mistakes rather than having someone tell you how to do it. It sticks in your head a bit better.

Learn how to use negate and join to your advantage. This is the simple version but if an object is negated it will turn red and if joined with any other object, at the parts where they intersect the non negated part will be essentially deleted or invisible.
