==WHAT’S HAPPENING?==
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) just announced its plan to slash net neutrality rules, allowing ISPs like Verizon and Comcast to block apps, slow websites, and charge fees to control what you see & do online. They vote December 14th. People from across the political spectrum are outraged.
==WHAT’S NET NEUTRALITY?==
Net neutrality is the basic principle that has made the Internet into what it is today. It prevents big Internet Service Providers (like Verizon) from charging extra fees, engaging in censorship, or controlling what we see and do on the web by throttling websites, apps, and online services. Internet Service Providers are classified by the FCC under the Title II provision, which allows the FCC to exert greater control over ISPs.
==WHAT CAN I DO?==
If you're 18+, call/email/text/fax your local representative and your state senator, and tell them that you support the Title II classification of Internet Service Providers and strong Net Neutrality. If you are not 18+, spread the word on social media and tell your parents to contact your local representative and state senator. Educate your parents that the classification of ISPs under Title II allows free and unrestricted access to the Internet.
==THIS CAME UP BEFORE==
You are correct. This same issue appeared in June of this year, and they were beaten back. However, large companies such as Netflix took a stand against the Federal Communications Commission. This time, there has not been a large movement within corporations to take a stand again and seldom to none corporations have stated they support Title II classification. We are alone this time. The movement for protecting Net Neutrality is of the people, by the people, and for the people.
