Harhar, first thread celebrating this day in WWC. =) Thanks for starting the series of revolts against the european empires than ended in most (if not all) of the american continent being independent from the likes of Holland, England, Spain and Portugal. Have a nice day celebrating and going crazy with fireworks til' it's over. While I suffer with elections and political party propaganda. =3

Not really, Canada still remains part of the British Empire as a Commonwealth.

I find it ironic that we celebrate our nation by destroying a piece of it with fireworks.

@Jericho That's why I said "most". @Faffy Inorite? I woke up at 9 AM, only to hear my neighbor shouting names. The voting ballot is inside my neighbor's garage which is literally 10 meters away. (I'm TheGolden)

Mexico declared its independance in 1810 and was recognized 1821.

Actually, Jericho, you are completely wrong. Canada has been independent since 1982, following the Canada Act which patriated Canada from the United Kingdom. Canada was part of the British Empire until 1931, when the Statue of Westminster was signed. The Commonwealth actually has nearly nothing to do with the British Empire. It is just a group, like the European Union, that was founded by Great Britain. Great Britain convinced many of it's former colonies to join the commonwealth, but not all of the countries have ever been part of the British Empire. A few countries in the Commonwealth, such as Rwanda or Mozambique, didn't even gain independence from English-speaking countries. (Portugal and Belgium, respectively)

Yes but Canada still recognizes Queen Elizabeth II as their Monarch. However here relatives and children and descendants to not bare any titles accept honary and military ones.

The crown of Canada is a separate throne than the British one, but the line is much the same. It's like how Prussia and Germany had the same line. Or how Italy and France used to have the same line. There are only minor differences in the line to the British throne and the Canadian throne since The Royal Family hasn't been overthrown in the last 28 years...

That is true but I dont care how independant you say you are as long as Queen of Canada is stamped in that old ladies job description, you are part of the empire.

Jericho... Alright, the British Empire has lost all of it's territories apart from the following: Anguilla Bermuda British Antarctic Territory British Indian Ocean Territory British Vi.rgin Islands Cayman Islands Falkland Islands Gibraltar Montserrat Pitcairn Islands Saint Helena South Georgia & Sandwich Islands Sovreign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia Turks and Caicos Islands Moreover, in 2002, the Empire officially disbanded, and now those are considered 'overseas territories'. Know your facts before posting. If you want to know more, search British Overseas Territory on Wikipedia.

You are a Commonwealth of the empire and that woman is still your Queen, you may not be a territory but she is still 'Queen of Canada'.

Just because we have a queen doesn't make us part of the British Empire...
