This is just a special thing for bricks to have, hopefully it shouldn't lag us too badly. Basicly this would be a new property for bricks to have, in which a brick can shine and glow(doesn't effect lighting yet) if the light hits it at an angle just right. The property also can have sub properties, distance and brightness. Distance is the distance of the fading out of the glare, and brightness is the transparency for the glare (Distance has a maximum of 5 studs; brightness has a limit of 0.75 to not blind players) This glare can just be a simple gradiant glow from the brick's shine. However, if this idea is successful, then we can add in different types of glare, such as star, gradiant, shine, and wave. You can add more ideas if you like, and I hope this idea isn't too laggy for our servers(can't wait for OGRE).

Could you use it for like idk Magnifying glasses? That would be cool if there were a zoom brick that works like it.

Zoom bricks are not going to be availible with our current game engine, but I think glare is possible. BTW Genate, script a glare script for me, Mr. Scriptable. I would like to see you make one. :3

Youwintheinternet, Yes. It is scriptable, With alot of thought and a good scripting level. It could happen.

Then make it happen Genate, then publish it to free models to show that it is possible, otherwise its not possible to script. I forgot to mention, how about changing the color of the glare? does that sound good too?

*points to reflectance* Glare would be pretty useless, Reflectance already reflects light off bricks... Since it doesn't affect lighting.

This glare can "jump off" the bricks so you can see it as a blur on the other side of the brick, or so.

this would be cool, though I don't know how it would work if it doesn't affect the lighting. maybe change the color of the player's screen?

I was thinking that glare would only go off the brick by 5 studs at max, so only if you are shoving your camera into the brick, you are not going to get blinded by the glare.

yea, that sounds good, but can our servrs handile it?

I was thinking the glow effects would be similar to a gui, that has a perimeter that follows the bricks specularity. Hopefully that shouldn't be too bad right?

#30396866Thursday, July 29, 2010 8:01 PM GMT

Our servers can handle gui's but what about the kind that's perimeter changes according to your camera's position, and the brick's position?

If they will start with a reasonable anti-alias system that won't lag with the current lag, and at least 2 checks a second (4 is better) this would be possible..
