Why Is It Lagging So Much In Servers?

Well the problem is that when i go to a server i either disconnect or lag terribly and it is very annoying someone tell me why!!!!

Make sure your modems antena is facing upwards, and your laptop/desktop is within 15 feet of it.

Some people dont have modems, and i have no antena on mine.
