[Tl;dr is for lazy people. But since this is something everyone should read, I’ve put aside my beliefs for a short time, and actually made one this time.]
[Disclaimer: The Sheep Metaphor concept is not my original idea. But all the modifications and tie-ins that I’ve made here are mine.]
Ok, so I know people have seen my rants on the mods being lazy within my posts. But, sometimes, I have to look at it from their point of view. These people at Roblox do all they can. To be honest, they don’t have enough Roblox Staff at Roblox. They are businesspeople, trying to make a living, when we are just complaining and playing the blame game. I personally don’t think this is fair, after all, look at it from their perspective: They come to work, get on their computers after some idle chat, and a cup of coffee with co-workers. They get to the Roblox site, find their forum, and sit down and, well, moderate. They read the reports, ban naughty kids, and occasionally post on threads. But, when they look at some of the comments and threads, they see us, complaining about Roblox all the time.
Would you like that? To come to work, just to be bashed BY KIDS? It must be extremely frustrating.
So, the other day I was wondering how they even put up with this, and I asked myself this: “Why does this even happen? They’re not completely lazy; they’re just doing their job.” And I came to this conclusion:
THE SHEEP METAPHOR
‘What be this mysterious conundrum?’ you may ask, ‘How does this relate to what you just said, Toa?’ Well, simply put: People are like sheep. We graze around, posting on topics that really wouldn’t affect the history of Roblox if they were implemented. But when a controversial topic comes around, the weaker, insecure sheep wait, and watch to see what happens. There could be two, three, maybe even four sides of an argument, but the future of that thread COMPLETLEY RELIES ON THOSE FIRST POSTS’.
Still don’t get it? Well, here’s how one thread might go: (Note: I know this is a common thread, but I just used it as an example. Think of it as if it were being posted for the first time.)
Main thread post: ‘Roblox came out with bodies for BC. As part of this website, I believe NBC should at least partake in some of this new feature.’
First thread reply: ‘No. BC paid for them, so they get them. When did you pay?’
That first post will draw others that will post the same. This in turn will cause the people who want to support that idea to either not post, or be cautious, and prepare to be flamed and ridiculed. And because people are like sheep, they play ‘Follow the Leader’. The first post is a massive impact of the latter ones. I’ve seen great ideas in threads fail, because the first post ridiculed them, or pointed out a flaw in their design, which then caused people to post the same.
‘But how does that relate at all towards your first paragraph, Toa?’ Well, my theory behind why so many people constantly complain about the mods being lazy is this: Someone made a post about the mods, because that narrow-minded person didn’t see the results they wanted, and called them lazy (an ignorant assumption, if you will). Then, the rest of the people that posted the same thing, referred to it in other posts, saying things such as: ‘The mods will never do it, they’re lazy’ or ‘Don’t you think that’s a little too much for the fat mods?’ After that, the snowball effect was implemented, and we’ve ended up here. It seems the mods don’t like us anymore. When was the last time one posted on a forum in S&I? And, can you blame them? The way they’ve been treated by us? I would have left too.
All I’m asking for you to do is to rise up above the flock, and create your own will. Stand up for an idea that you want to happen. Don’t be a sheep, don’t play follow the leader.
I’m also asking for some support. Show the Mods and Admins that we still like them, for if it wasn’t for them, we probably wouldn’t be here right now. Show them that we can do better. Show them we ENJOY having them on S&I. Most of all show them that we DON’T think they’re lazy.
FAQ:
“How is this a suggestion you noob?”
-I’m SUGGESTING that we be nicer to the mods, and appreciate what they’re doing for us.
“What if I don’t want to be nice to the mods?”
-You should at least direct your anger issues towards something else. Like Paper Mache.
“What if I don’t like paper mache?”
-Then you hate piñatas, and therefore deserve to be thrown into a pit.
“What if I don’t like sheep?”
-Tell that to Scotland. But only if you’re capable of running from an angry mob.
[TL;DR – If you are just reading this section of my post, then I know you’re lazy. But whatever, show the mods you’re support, maybe even apologize to them for the way you acted. SHOW THEM WE DON’T THINK THEY’RE LAZY! Like you, for example :P]
[Quick side note: If you ever hear me say ‘Baaa!’ to someone, this is what I’m referring too. Feel free to use it in a post where you think it’s appropriate. I’ll also be using it in my new V siggy V :3]
