Here is the easier building help. This will explain all the basics of building
I know what your thinking “I don’t want to read all of this!!!” You don’t have to. Just read the questions and if they don’t relate to your problem send me, Blockmite, a PM or reply to this post. Here are some basic questions that I think most of your are having trouble with.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #1 "Who do I ask for help with building?"--Before you ask anyone you should read the ROBLOX Wiki. It has a few helpful tips that might lead you in the right direction. If you can't find anything relating to your problem, go to Builderman's page and click 'send message'. You should be brought to a screen called "Builderman's Help Center". Search "building help". If all else fails, ask a person who has BC, TBC or OBC (BC members have more places to "experiment" with so they know a little more than free users). You can also ask some one that has been around longer (the longer they have been here on ROBLOX the more experience they have).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #2 "My brick is to big/small! How do I resize it?"--First click "tools" in the upper left-hand corner of your screen by insert, full screen, and exit. After you have opened up Tools there will be a toolbar on the top of your screen with a bunch of tools. Scroll over each one until you have found "resize". The resize tool is a blue tool. Click the brick you are working on. Blue dots should appear! Click and drag those dots to resize your brick. Pull the dots away from the brick to make it larger and vise versa. Congratulations!!! You just resized your first brick.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #3 "I need my brick to be flat but I don’t know how."--Look in properties. Properties is a box that pops up in the bottom right hand corner. If you don’t see it go to the very top of your screen. You should see File-Edit-View and so on. Click view and scroll down to Properties. Click it and the Properties bar should pop up. Click on your brick then look in properties. In properties you will see something that says "Form Factor Brick". Click on the arrow by brick you should see "Brick, Symmetric, and Plate". Select plate and your brick will become smaller. To shrink the brick smaller then 1 stud by 1 stud you will need to insert a block mesh for that brick. Go up to Insert-object-Block Mesh. In Explorer click the block mesh, and in Properties you will be able to edit the off set and size of the block mesh. Now you can make bricks even smaller!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #4 "Wait! Sparkles, smoke and fire are cool. How do I find them?"-- Simple. If you have tools open look at the top of your screen where File and View are. There should be a tab for "Insert". Click that and scroll down to object.(Insert-object-smoke/sparkles/fire)NOTE: You must have your brick that you want to have the smoke or sparkles in or else they will be in Workspace. Not Part (your brick).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #5 "What are Can collide, Transparency, Anchoring, and Reflectance? How do I change them?"--You can change all of these things in properties (NOTE: Select your brick first). Can collide is whether you can walk through a brick or not. Transparency is how clear your brick is (whether you can see through it or not, like glass). Anchoring allows your brick to appear to "hover". It allows your brick to stay in the air without falling. Reflectance is how shiny it is. Like a mirror. When you edit these remember to make it 0.(YOUR NUMBER HERE) instead of just your number. Like say you wanted a window but you didn’t want it completely clear. I would suggest 0.5 or 0.3. If you did just plain old 5 or 3 you wouldn’t see your brick at all.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #6 "How do I copy a group of bricks?"--With the blue resize tool click and drag over your object--everything is selected! Look up at your tool bar. You should see two buttons in the upper left hand corner. One says group-the other, ungroup. Select group and now you have one solid object. It will come up in Explorer as "Model". You can name your object by right clicking on it and selecting "rename" or clicking on the name a few times. To copy your Model right click and select copy (Ctrl + C). Now to make it again select Workspace and right click and paste (Ctrl + V). To remove that Model you can either delete it with the hammer or right click and cut (Ctrl + X).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #7 “How do I make a free model?” To make your grouped object an actual model, go up to File-Publish Selection to Roblox. There you can name your model and choose whether or not you want it to be used for free public use.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #8 "My brick WONT MOVE. What do I do?” If your brick wont move try to unanchor it. If that doesn’t work you might have CFramed it and it automatically anchored your brick even if the Properties doesn’t say so. When that happens you should CFramed it back to a normal state (meaning on the base plate and none of it sticking under anything) and then click the Anchor in properties until there is NO checkmark in the box. It should be back to a moveable state.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moderate:
These are the more complicated questions for robloxians who have been on Roblox for at least 3 or more months. Why so long? Because most robloxians need to now the basics before they can go on to the advanced. So here are some recent questions I have been asked that I think will help you learn how to build. Again you don’t have to read all of this you just have to read the question and if it doesn’t relate to your problem you can ask me how to by replying or sending me Blockmite a PM.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #1 "How do I make a Talking Brick?"--Insert a brick and rename it "Head".Then, insert a model by going up in Tools-Insert-Object-Model. Put the brick into the model and then insert a Humanoid into the model (Insert-Object-Humanoid). Change the walk speed, Max Health, and health to 0. If you are using the Talk Brick as an actual Head you don’t have to make the Max Health and the Health to 0. Be sure to insert the Humanoid while the game is PAUSED. Then rename the model to whatever you want your brick to say.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #2 "How do I make a Mesh?"-- Due to Roblox updates you can no longer create a mesh with a mesh making program (Example: Anim8or). Although you can insert a special mesh into a brick and change what the mesh looks like in properties. You can change the color of a premade Mesh. Open up the Mesh in Properties. Scroll down until you see VertexColor. change the numbers there. The X, Y, and Z represent the colors Red, Green, and Blue. (Other meshes are a Block Mesh and a Cylinder Mesh.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #3 "How do I make a morph?"-- To make a morph takes a lot of time and has a lot of steps. There is also some scripting that you might be able to take from another morph or get it from the Scripter’s section. First start out by creating the body of a robloxian. Then create a plate like I showed you up above and name it 'Button'. Then group the body of the person and the Button and rename it Morph. Open up the character and rename his body parts from 'Part' or 'Brick' to 'Right Leg' or 'Left Leg' and so on. If you can't get the head to be round just insert a special mesh the way I taught you from above and click 'Head' in properties. After your done naming your character’s legs and arms you need to add clothes . Go up to Insert-Object-Shirt. Click your character before you insert it. You should see a shirt URL or Address Line space open. Copy the address at the top of your web browser when you are at a shirt. (I.e:http://www.ROBLOX.com/). Same thing for the pants. Now insert a Humanoid into the body. Change the max health to 0 and the current health to 0. PAUSE BEFORE YOU INSERT THE HUMANOID! You should now see the word 'Model' or 'Morph' above the Morph. If you rename the model that will change the words above just like the Talking Brick. By now its starting to look like a real morph. Insert a script into Button. You can ask the Scripter’s in the Scripting section for help with making the scripts you need or you can find another morph and takes the scripts from it. If you do you might need to rename some things in the script so it will apply to your Morph.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #4 "I don’t want to delete everything in my place because I have a lot of things. How can I just clean it all of and start over?"--This one is simple but I put it in here because I figured the newer ones would delete there place and complain to me about how to get it back. Look up at the top of the page and click 'My ROBLOX'. The go to 'Places'. Click the place you want to start over on and select 'Configure Place'. Scroll down and select 'Reset Place'. There is 3 choices you can select. The base plate, the house, and the Battle Grounds. If it says "An Error Occurred, We're Sorry" Just press the back button and try it again.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #5 "How do I make a GUI?"-- This one is more scripting then building so please ask the scripter’s what a GUI is and how to use/make one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #6 "How do I make my brick something other than plastic. I.e:Wood or Slate.?"-- MANY of you have been asking this and I am tired of sending out 50 or 60 Pms telling the same thing to all of you so I decided to put it here. After you open up tools you should see a tool that has an Atom like picture. After you click it you should see all the types of materials like wood or grass. Select one and then click your brick. It should turn the material you chose. If your brick is transparent or reflective and you change the brick to wood or any other material it will remove the transparency or reflectance.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #7 "How do I open up Roblox Studios?"-- First you have to download Roblox Studios. You can find Roblox Studios at:
http://www.roblox.com/Install/default.aspx
To open Roblox Studios go to "Start". Then do one of two things: #1 Search "Roblox Studios" in the search bar. #2 Go to 'All Programs-Roblox-Roblox Studios'. This might not be the place where you save Roblox Studios so I suggest searching it in the search bar.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #8 "GRRR!!! None of these answer my question. What do I do?"-- Its as simple as 123!
1: Click "Post Reply"
2: Type your question.
3: Select "Post" and wait for an answer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advanced:
This is more advanced that should be use by people who have played on Roblox for 6 to 10 months. Why? Because the others would TOTALLY FLIP OUT! This stuff can and most likely will make your place LOOK as good as the Pros. Although you wont be a pro just yet...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #1 "I noticed some new building tools! What are they and how do I use them?"-- Well First of all I am still trying to figure them out too! Two of them I have pretty much figured out. Up in tools there should be three new looking tools. The one on the left is a black arrow pointing left. This is like a move tool. This will move your brick in smaller more precise moves. To the right of the three new looking tools there should be some options for a grid. Your grid can be 1 stud or 1/5 of a stud. 1 stud will move your brick by one stud. 1/5 Will move your brick one fifth of a stud. You can also choose the far right tool. It will resize your brick smaller without a mesh. The brick is still there even when a mesh is inserted. But when you change the size of your brick with this tool your actual brick changes size instead of the mesh making the brick LOOK like its small. I know this is confusing to you. Even when I was typing it was confusing, but trust me. Learn the tools and you will be better than the best. NOTE NOW: It looks like they have dissapeard. I know they are just playing Hide N' Seak with us though ._.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Question #2 "How do I make a Tool?" Insert a tool the same way you would insert a script or a model. Then insert a brick that is named Handle. You then need to insert a srcript. Sorry but that Is all I can tell you. Ask the scripters what to do next.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question #3 "What is a skybox?" -- A skybox is the sky around your baseplate. You know when you fall off the map and you may see lines around part of the sky? That is the edge of a skybox.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And if you have any of questions feel free to post them.
