Computers weren't designed to handle anything but real numbers. Give them imaginary numbers, and you get that answer. Undefined.

'the answer should be i' i is an imaginary number. Why would compilers know it? It might think i is the number after 999 googleplex. We as humans can interperet that. WAIT- that just gave me an idea.
