So, I told 4 people a basic plot for an RP I was going to make, and they all said they didn't like it, but nobody gave a reason. The basic storyline was that you were a trainee in a kingdom that was suddenly invaded. The conquest happened quickly, and it was obvious that the castle would fall. So you and your fellow trainee soilders decided to flee the castle. Then that would be where the RP starts. The characters have fled from the kingdom to tell neighboring countries about the danger that would soon be coming to them.

I think it sounds that it could be a good roleplay, but I like to see the reasons for why they were invaded, which I'm guessing you would come up with soon, since you just gave the basic idea. But I like it, and I would join..

There's nothing wrong with the idea at all plus it is orginal!

This seem fine by my standards, but what is attacking? A rival kingdom? An army of evil monsters? Maybe undead warriors?.

Well, there were a few different things for why they were invaded. However, it was something that I was planning on revealing later in the plot, and part of the characters goals was to find out why they invaded. Here are some things that had been discarded: - Each kingdom held a magical stone that repelled the power of darkness. The kingdom that invaded has been infected by the darkness, and is now an agent of it. (Discarded because somebody pointed out it was the same plot basically as a Fire Emblem game. I have played through the Fire Emblem series, and that was probably where I got the idea from) - He just felt like having more land and power. (Yeah, obvious reason to discard that one, right?)

You could do a sort of revenge type reason. The kingdom under attack did something to the creatures of darkness. Some of the dark beings want revenge and attack the kingdom.

But how did the dark creatures start to roam the land?

How about they were summoned there by a Cult of their worshipers? I have seen that used a few times.

I would say the the dark beings used to coexist with the light until the Kingdom came along. Dark doesn't have to equal evil, just as light doesn't have to equal good.

Okay, how about this: The creatures of darkness were sealed away to a seperate part of the continent. Somehow (To be revealed), the seal broke, causing the creatures of darkness to be able to roam the land. The first kingdom attacked was the one bordering it (the one where the characters are from), and the characters that flee are running to tell the other kingdoms (Well, mostly just so they stay alive, but they don't want to be branded as cowards or traitors, so they use that as an excuse.)

So, only one side of the story? You could fit the Dark's side of the story.

I see nothing wrong with this RP.

In my opinion, that whole "creatures of darkness" or other worldly beings attacking kingdoms is overused, and I think you should just stick with revealing why they attacked later..

@SuperStella, Okay. But I can't reveal why if I don't actually come up with an idea why. :P

Well then, lets put our heads together and figure out "Why would an army of (whatever) attack a kingdom"
SuperStella
#41435902Sunday, January 23, 2011 7:11 PM GMT

..What if we combined the ideas, so it was like, a dark being took control of the king/leader, invading the others under the disguise of simply wanting power/money..

It is an army of humans. The original storyline had two neighboring kingdoms go into war. What if the king of the other kingdom is being fed lies by somebody who claims to be a fortune teller about how he is destined to rule the world?
Horanoven

That seems to work. What of the possessed king's subjects. If they're still human, you could easily end up with a rebellion without some way to control or calm them; Or silence them...

@Super, If we went back to the idea of stones, I could say that each of the stones that repelled the darkness had an anti-stone created as well, and somebody has given the king one of the anti-stones, and he has been corrupted by it.

(late post, but still something to think about)

Perhaps, there could be some mystical ceature (Like a dragon or something) was always getting visited by brave slayers. Then one day someone had actually managed to kill it. Then the slayer went to the furthest part of the cave and found a chest. Inside was a stone. He took th stone which made the dark spirit thingies angry.

The king's subjects would not be possessed. They would be following orders from a king, that is how things usually work. :P Although I could make it so that some of them don't like the fighting, and eventually turn...

Hmm a puppet master effect. Someone is using the king to take out other kingdoms take over the world and THEN kill the king and rule for themselves. Hmm/

Rebellions make the story deeper! Excellent, I must say. So, who IS this "puppet master" anyway. A simple unknown?
