Simple enough. That we can form the shape of a "Part" object from a grid drawn upon its surface, think of it as "Resizing" but instead we are shifting the surface around to create new edges and surfaces. This could be useful if the grid is defined enough for the creation of ground and such (Hills and valleys) without having to cframe or use meshes, with a plus side of being able to come into contact with the visual surface properly.
This should basically include:
- The ability to adjust the surface of a "Part" object (Any surface) based on a definable grid to create more shapes and surfaces from one part that can come into proper physical contact with the player.
- That we should also be able to set the definement of this grid when building.
- That we can add and delete surfaces within a grid square (Of our definement choice) to create entire objects (Such as a table for example) without the use of multiple parts.
- That a new window (Ex: Explorer Window, Toolbox Window, Command Bar Window, Output Window, etc) be put into place in ROBLOX Studio to use this feature through a 2D (Rotatable) view of an object and its surfaces (With a definable point of view on the grid).
- That the definition of the points be at a least 0.01 at the smallest definition possible.
- That what is shaped is the corners of each grid square, and that the surface(s) between each point are rendered to connect with it and surfaces running along it properly.
- That with these new physically contactable surfaces they will behave as seperate surfaces for decals, textures, and etc that are drawn upon the surfaces of parts, but motors / any connectors cannot be applied to them due to no actual "Front Surface, Back Surface, Left Surface, Right Surface, Top Surface, and Bottom Surface" for the object(s) in question. Decals / Textures, under their properties when on one of these surfaces the surface name will not appear, and upon being moved they will be deleted.
The following objects could be created easily with this setup:
- The shape of the ground and land without it
- Plants / Animals (Visually of course)
- Furniture (Without using meshes, many bricks [ Objects ] + cframe)
- Vehicles (A more defined and better designed vehicles)
- Etc, come up with it as you create it.
This is a very fresh idea and could be quite interesting to use ingame for the purposes listed above. |

Bump. Use your creativity guys. If I could post images I would give tons of examples of how this could look. |

People are active enough to read my other, and noticably longer, thread on another topic under suggestions which is active right as I speak, but so far this older and shorter thread has not even been reviewed or considered by the general player population. Saddening. |

You talk even more intelligently then I.. O.o
I stopped halfway through because I couldn't understand, I suggest you make your forum talk a little bit simpler so lesser players may understand.
Anyway, this would be cool but it's kind of harder then you think. |
|

Not really. Many other, and I am talking about MANY OTHER, major game developing engines use this concept, formable surfaces of an object. Its just a matter of time until we pick up on it and I think we should do this now, and advance on it with the extra input I have added. |

i support x infinity because i had something similar to sugest on my other user but everyone hated it :( |

@Heybozo it might be the way you present it. Different wording and variations of an idea can lead to differences and disagreements if it doesn't appeal to the players whom it will apply to. |

"If the shoe fits..." It works and its a good addition to the game. Different sizes go with different feet as I could say. |

Thanks everyone, make sure to show this to everyone whom you would think agree with this. We have gotta push to keep this up on the front page, I want someone (A developer possibly? They sometimes read this, but I do not know exactly when) to see this and take this into serious consideration for our game. Wouldn't you want to see it in the next major update? |

Oh they might have to moderate bricks that you custom form, for some obvious reasons. |
|
GaveupJoin Date: 2011-01-12 Post Count: 802 |
No they won't because that isn't moderateable in the way I know your probably thinking. Its an ingame object, and like parts they can be abused. So the moderation of this would fall under "Moderation of places" because you cannot moderate ingame objects using filters and pre-checks. |
|
JUSTINBGJoin Date: 2008-04-19 Post Count: 9381 |
Yeah,that makes sense.
And,if they publish it as a model they'll just moderate the model as they do now,so no changes to that area are needed. |

This is just... awesome. This would boast up ROBLOX's popularity status for being an actual good game. Support!
P.S. Should there be an option to turn on a ghost brick to see what a "regular" brick looks like? Unless the grids run by the same X,Y,Z system, then no problem.
