When people say "He's no David Tennant", I tend to get rather annoyed. Tennant or no, Matt Smith is still a fantastic Doctor. Following Tennant was going to be difficult for anyone. If it wasn't Matt Smith, then it would be another actor some would say "He's no Tennant" about. But he has since proved that he is up to the task of being the Doctor.
The cracks in Series 5 were my favourite story arc of the revived series, and the finale was a different but brilliant new take on the end of a series. What, with the Eleventh Doctor's introduction speech to the Atraxi ('The Eleventh Hour'), his speech to the Alliance which I'm sure scared even the emotionless Cybermen ('The Pandorica Opens'), his beautiful farewell bedtime story to a sleeping Amelia Pond ('The Big Bang'), along with his cool bow tie and fez, I look forward to enjoying Matt Smith again now that Series 6 had begun. |
