I will try and minimize abuse of this idea as much as possible.
Ok. Well, I remember reading awhile back that there is a certain number of days where the thread is classified as "old" if it hasn't been posted on till then. That will be the limit to the days your thread will survive if no one has posted on it till then. To make it easier to understand, let's SAAAAAAAY the limit is 5 days. If no one posts on the thread for 5 days, the thread gets sent to a moderator. The moderator can have the option to delete, lock, or let the thread live depending on its status and what type of post it is.
If the moderator chooses to lock it, he will move it to a new subforum, the "Archives" folder. Any posts there may be read but not replied to.
If he chooses to delete it, the thread is gone permanently. It will send a message to the original thread creator saying the post has been deleted, and he can choose to revive it if he wants to.
If the moderator lets the thread live, a shorter limit will be set to it. If the thread only gets 5 (not certain about this number) or less replies than it is sent to a moderator again. This time he cannot let it live, he must either archive it or delete it.
If any user appears to be purposely bumping a rather old thread that has not reached the limit, a suspicious user can report it to a moderator, who will review it, then choose between the course of actions which he would normally do on the original limit.
Please point out any flaws you see in the thread and I will attempt to work them.

Also, please note I said "let's say the limit is 5 days," because obviously the limit wouldn't be only 5 days, and I don't want anybody saying 5 days is too short a limit so this thread fails.

Only flaw is, Mods don't like working in the forums.
Other then that, Support.

It only seems so, since the mods never reply to anything. And even if they disliked the idea of making a decision on old threads, they wouldn't not do it.

Automatically lock the necro threads.
By, a filter.

Ah, but the problem would be quite simple.
"When too lock them?"

No. This limit is EXACT. To the very SECOND it was created. True, those still will come in like crazy. But remember that a day difference to the limit isn't much a difference if the moderator can't manage to get it all done in one sitting.

Hmm...
Lets say though,
You posted a help request one day.
People had answered your topic.
However you can't view them because you have to go overseas.
And guess,what when you come back,your help request is gone.Forcing you to post another one and waste time waiting for another person to answer.
However it depends..
If you're talking about S&I,I support. |

@Vida
Only S&I. Though I somewhat doubt that kind of situation would happen, considering it takes normally a few minutes to thirty depending on the time to get a reply. |
|
|
It might help with the "GET RID OF BC ONLY GAMES NAO!" kind of posts.
cool. |

@starman
To quote what the T.C said.
"To make it easier to understand, let's SAAAAAAAY the limit is 5 days. If no one posts on the thread for 5 days, the thread gets sent to a moderator. The moderator can have the option to delete, lock, or let the thread live depending on its status and what type of post it is."
