@tato
1. Because, like I said, all the NCAA is is a building in Indianapolis that relies on its member programs to report stuff.
2. Yea but it is still a violation nonetheless |
|
|
"Because players will read thousands of rules, half of them of which no one cares about and violate anyway!"
thousands of rules?
you're an idiot!
this is the one basic rule that pretty much sums up all of the other rules. if you're an amateur athlete, you cannot be paid.
"Because, like I said, all the NCAA is is a building in Indianapolis that relies on its member programs to report stuff."
i'm sure SMU and USC totally reported their violations
"Yea but it is still a violation nonetheless"
so then why make the big fuss
if you know that the violations won't be punished, why make this thread |

@tato
because some of theses "violations" are stupid. |
|
|
"thousands of rules?
you're an idiot!

Can't be paid for playing*
You can be paid outside of sports. OSU's players got punished for it!
Plus, you can't even give a bagel with a spread on it to a recruit, but yet can give a plain bagel.

@gigantotron
they're violations
deal with it
if schools aren't punished, they'll keep doing it
"Can't be paid for playing*
You can be paid outside of sports. OSU's players got punished for it!"
they were paid for being ohio state athletes
quit being illiterate and read
the OSU football players were being paid extra for playing OSU football
the women's shooting team girl was paid for doing well in a competition
neither of you two play high school football
don't come talk to me about the rules of the NCAA without knowing them yourselves
"Plus, you can't even give a bagel with a spread on it to a recruit, but yet can give a plain bagel."
this is relevant how |

@tato
So you are saying players whom most come from smalltown, USA, who have little to no money, shouldn't be paid for what they do to support their families? |
|
|
|
"they were paid for being ohio state athletes
quit being illiterate and read
the OSU football players were being paid extra for playing OSU football
the women's shooting team girl was paid for doing well in a competition"
1. They were being paid for a job. The employers paid them extra. The NCAA has nothing to do with that.
2. You're illiterate obviously as well. Saying "good luck" to a recruit shouldn't be a violation. Under your logic, NHL players can't say good luck to the other team, because the players on the other team might want to play for them!
3. How much extra though? A few bucks for example shouldn't be a big deal. It's not the end of the world. According to the NCAA, it is.
4. The women's rifle team girl was doing a competition outside the NCAA. Since when can an organization determine whether you get paid outside its competitions? Oh wait, it's the stupid NCAA!
"this is relevant how"
It shows how stupid the violations are. Giving plain bagels will give as much leaning towards a team as saying "good luck" before a game.

1. please read what i have said almost ten times this thread. i'll put it in caps just in case you decide to not read it. THEY WERE BEING PAID MORE FOR BEING OHIO STATE FOOTBALL PLAYERS. THEIR JOB PERFORMANCE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE EXTRA CASH.
2. you're an idiot. a professional is under contract, and has no incentive to play for another team because of a simple wish. they are offered money, and have less to lose when switching teams. when you're a recruit (which you will never be) you have a lot of factors pushing you one way or another. it's a violation for a reason.
3. the NCAA isn't even punishing OSU for these violations. clearly it's not the end of the world. but it's still a violation
4. oh wait, you're still a moron! i shouldn't bother arguing with your ignorant mind! i'll say it in caps again, just because you only seem to pay attention to things when they are in caps. SHE GOT PAID FOR AN ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE WHILE BEING AN NCAA ATHLETE. THAT IS A VIOLATION. |
|

"THEY WERE BEING PAID MORE FOR BEING OHIO STATE FOOTBALL PLAYERS. THEIR JOB PERFORMANCE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE EXTRA CASH."
"Oh look! I can yell! I'm so cool!" - Tato/Colin Cowherd
And it was the employer's choice. The NCAA is not responsible for what happens to their athletes outside of college sports.
"2. you're an idiot. a professional is under contract, and has no incentive to play for another team because of a simple wish. they are offered money, and have less to lose when switching teams. when you're a recruit (which you will never be) you have a lot of factors pushing you one way or another. it's a violation for a reason."
The professional can ask for a trade. The recruit might of been told that exact same wish by another coach. Merely having a coach saying "good luck" to you is not the only reason to go to a school. It would be a very minor factor. And I also said "might" as well. Plus, here's new evidence of Tato being Colin Cowherd: "I can call people idiots! I'm so smart and creative at making insults!"
"3. the NCAA isn't even punishing OSU for these violations. clearly it's not the end of the world. but it's still a violation"
And the NCAA doesn't punish for thousands of violations made by schools all over the NCAA.
And here are some other retarded violations from the NCAA:
"The rowing coach called a recruit in Germany known to be in 12th grade, only to find out that high school in Germany has 13 grades. That made the recruit impermissible to contact. Violation."
"A men's volleyball coach was called twice by a prospective recruit's father. When he called him back, he found out the player was too young to be recruited, and ended the call. But it was a violation."
"A recruit playing paintball with the track team on an official visit was a violation because the recruit was "allowed to demonstrate his athletic ability in the presence of an assistant men's track and field coach." An event viewed as entertainment is OK for a recruit. Paintball is not."
And you said texting is allowed now. It still isn't.

goof
"And it was the employer's choice. The NCAA is not responsible for what happens to their athletes outside of college sports."
yes, they are
you're an idiot
you don't understand the NCAA
don't post about it until you do
reggie bush would not get punished for everything he did, because according to your ignorant ideas, he got improper benefits outside of college sports
"The professional can ask for a trade. The recruit might of been told that exact same wish by another coach. Merely having a coach saying "good luck" to you is not the only reason to go to a school. It would be a very minor factor."
FFS
I SAID IT LIKE TWENTY TIMES
>not a high school football player
>trying to tell a high school football player what influences them
stop posting
"And I also said "might" as well. Plus, here's new evidence of Tato being Colin Cowherd: "I can call people idiots! I'm so smart and creative at making insults!"
lel zammy u so fanny
"And the NCAA doesn't punish for thousands of violations made by schools all over the NCAA."
because they're secondary violations
for some reason, gigantron and retardpalooza (that's you!) decide to make a big deal of it
"'The rowing coach called a recruit in Germany known to be in 12th grade, only to find out that high school in Germany has 13 grades. That made the recruit impermissible to contact. Violation.'"
yes, that is a violation
"A men's volleyball coach was called twice by a prospective recruit's father. When he called him back, he found out the player was too young to be recruited, and ended the call. But it was a violation."
yes, that is a violation
deal with it

paintball is an athletic activity
that's a violation
"And you said texting is allowed now. It still isn't."
so how come the seniors on my team are constantly texting coaches? |

what a great comeback! i'm sure that you weren't completely overwhelmed by my correct argument and didn't decide to take a wild shot in the dark and just say something ridiculous!

no. what you said was opinion. everything about anylsis is opinion. You took the position that the NCAA Violations are not ridiculous. that is an opinion. I took the position that the NCAA Violations are ridiculous. that is an opinion as well. |

" The bagel rule and the fact you can't say "good luck" to a recruit is stupid.
No reasonable human being would or should consider a coach saying "Good luck" to a player passing by to be a rules violation. "
There is not a rule that says " if you say goodluck to a player before a game it's a violation " . It just confines in to the circumstanses of other rules. |
|
RomoismJoin Date: 2010-08-13 Post Count: 43090 |
@ham
most of the rules aren't clearly defined and relies on the way someone translates it when they read it. That is why it is a mess. |
|
|
the rule is very straightforward. you cannot talk to recruits on their game day |
|
RomoismJoin Date: 2010-08-13 Post Count: 43090 |
@tato
and that is a stupid rule. |
|
|
no, it is not
you, not being a high school football player, do not know the importance of a college coach talking to you on gameday |
|
RomoismJoin Date: 2010-08-13 Post Count: 43090 |
@tato
nor do you. |
|
|
you're an idiot
nice texas education there bud
i do know the importance of coaches talking to people on gameday, i've witnessed it first hand. kids get hyped over programs just because a coach wanted to talk them. in game day, you are locked in. you're focused and determined. for someone to give you the added assurance that they're interested in whatever you do on the field gives you a boost towards them. |

how the hell was that idiotic? all i did was state that you are not a hs football player who has been talked to bye a CFB coach. |
