Dishonorably Discharges is a game I will be created along with a couple of friends in the next couple of years. Right now it is mainly an idea, which is why I'm posting here. I'll give you the background info of what we want the game to be mostly like, and then post some things that are debatable in hopes to get some responses to see what the people think would be best. Hope you like the idea. Desc. Dishonorably Discharged will be a FPS/RPG game. The storyline goes that you were a special operative of the US Military. You were convicted for an act you didn't commit. All you know is what you were trained. There's only one thing you can do now, become a gun for hire. The rest is customizable. You choose where you live(There will be about 10 options). You're friend hooks you up with a man who can find a use for you. He gives you jobs. At the beginning there is an optional tutorial. You will take down gang men, other hits, kidnap people, kill corperate bosses, etc. All this will be in a first person atmosphere. tl;dr It's a merc RPG, simple as that. Debatable Topics. 1. Single Player, Multiplayer or Both Not many game on Roblox are singleplayer, but it could work for this type. Then again, if you did multiplayer you could create a team and do jobs like that. If you did both, it would have a GUI at the beginning asking which you would want to enter, you could also go back to that screen and choose something different. 2. Places to work I was thinking NYC, Miami, LA, Vegas, Boston, Austin and the rest is up for debate. I am also thinking of creating "expansion packs" where you can fly to a new place with new jobs. Jobs being the equivalent to Quests in an RPG 3. Name Dishonorably Discharged is okay, but you guys are probably more creative than me, so if you have any better names, post them. 4. VIP As I said before, I was considering expansion packs. Also, VIP could be used to get money to buy new guns. VIP may be used to unlock weapons for a lower price. And more that I will inevitably think of later. So far, that's it. I'll be continually updating this thread with new questions and updates on what will be added to the game. Thanks for reading and posting, these posts will make the game better and possibly even a frontpage worthy one.

Cool idea, and it usually takes time for people to post, so just bump every once in a while once it goes near the bottom of the page. ☜▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☜☆☞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☞ - Candymaniac, a highly reactive substance.

Sounds interesting, I'd probably play it. ~>"Those who are allowed to shoot are those who are prepared to be shot."<~

Yeah, I figured after three hours I could bump it but I don't like the word bump itself... But neither of you gave me your opinion on the questions :(

About the name, did you get the idea from Team Fortress 2? Because Soldier (a TF2 character) sometimes yells to the enemies "You are dishonorably discharged!"

Nope, didn't get the idea for the name form that game. Never even played it. But the story is kind of based off of Burn Notice.

hmmm.... i like the idea, but role play games are never particulary fun if you changed it to an actual game, had upgrades, weapons lying around(no one's done that but i don't know y) have vehicles lying around at random places and have 2 teams with no real organized fort. then your idea could work.

i do like the free agent idea. you could choose to be either on a team, or work alone. to compensate for man power. the free-agents can be snipers, saboteurs, and armed with rpgs and ride small manueverable vehicles like atv's and jet-skis. have the game take place in venice and have people ride gondolas( those boats made for specialized water travel in venice-VERY manueverable), have siege towers placed in random positions. for the corporate bosses idea. have a person titled to be a corporate boss. the boss has the goal of protecting a weapons stockpile from the free agents in order for the weapons to pass safely to other players in his/her team( kind of like the game 'kill the courier')have one person in charge of the gondolas and who has to defend himself against italian mummies( zombies are cliches use mummies- they did exist in italy-you can read about in national geographic magazine.) and the free agents-armed with a sniper gun, an rpg, and a turret gun. have another person in charge of the canals-he or she would try to isolate the free agents to specific regions of the city by denying them passage across the draw-bridges while having the double goal of trying to allow the gondolas to pass through the canals. he or she would also try to prevent the mummies from going near the corporate boss.

When I say RPG I mean it will have the equivalent of quests in a merc form. I call them Jobs right now. It's not like you just go out there and do whatever you want. There will be a storyline to it that you can follow.

Far cry 2 much? There are 2 things which i dont like: 1)Judging by your idea, you will have to start from the bottom of everything each time you play the game 2)Cooperative bosses. If game will be realistic(i hope it will), each boss shall be killable by one player alone. Player shall not be a juggernaut. Boss shall not be juggernaut too.

@Ordinary Nice ideas, I might put them in. When I asked if it should be Both, I meant there's a GUI to choose and it would be seperate, but it might work together. @Rack 1. I plan to use Data Persistence to save Jobs(Quests), Weapons, Location, Names(You pick your name when you enter), Experience, Some sort of Ranks and anything else that would be earned. So you would _not_ have to start from the beginning whenever you enter. 2. Corporate Bosses. As in the leader of a major company that needs to be "taken care of". Not cooperative. Although, if I do go for the multiplayer, there may be "team jobs" where you act as a team of hitmen and have to each do a certain thing. 1 person takes out the guards, another cuts the power and kill sall in their way, another is the getaway man who will have to shoot at cops and drive at the same time. Etc. But thanks to both guys, keep the feedback coming!

Sounds interesting. How about at certain points in the game (Start, mission complete, etc) you skip to a cutscene about memories of the war (L.A. Noire, much?), as to give some background information on what happened.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. I was planning on having side jobs and main jobs. There was someone who ratted you out, and you need to get back at him. Flashbacks to that person and when you were discharged. I like it. Thanks.

@C0d3Y Now the idea seems nice. I can also help you with it(scripting/building, i know both). Finally, if you make the flashback idea, make it so that plot changes for each user please.

Epic idea. ! Problem. ROBLOX Would crash 90% Of computers that play that game. Maybe turn it into a Java or a C++ Game? ROBLOX Isnt the best for big games like that.

@Rack I don't think I'll need help but I'll keep you in mind if I do. As for the flashbacks, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. @Magoo Problem with that is I don't know java or any form of c I should start learning but haven't gotten the time. Also doing it on Roblox is a lot easier than creating your own from scratch.

You asked for my opinion. Here it is. 1. Single Player, Multiplayer or Both Touchy subject. Of course to be realistic multiplayer is a must as no mercenary would be alone (Outside of Hollywood). However, in the case that there are not enough players in the server, you can't force players to stop playing because nobody is there to team up with. A solution would be to have both team and solo missions that players can play. However, do not divide single or multiplayer in a GUI to begin with. Instead, have it so players are default single player, but can send mission invites to other players to start multiplayer missions, on harder difficulties. 2. Places to Work Although your places seem like a good idea, you should consider creating some near-futuristic city setting, with your own companies, not real world ones. It might be taken the wrong way to some people. Best to avoid it altogether. And expansion packs might be a good idea, depending on how well you set it up. If your timing is perfect, you'll finish this by the time Roblox Universe update comes out (Where data persistance transfers to places), and you can have expansions in other places, separately. 3. Name The name you have now is ok, so long as you have it a re-occuring theme that the player looks back as to why they were discharged. If it's not often enough, then think up another. 4. VIP Don't do VIP. RPGs are too big and take too long to make to only allow the few amount of priviaged players access to certain areas, and will be a waste of time. 5. Storyline You forgot about this part. Make sure that at the end of the game, the player finds out who or why they got into this mess in the first place. The side jobs are important too, but the main storyline is a must. Good luck.

1. Interesting idea. I'm not sure if I fully understand what you're saying, but what I got was that you think there should be single and multiplayer quests and you can sort of bring other people in for those quests. 2. May take some time to create my own cities, but I'll give it a shot. 3 and sort of 5 I plan on having there being main jobs. You know who framed you, you need to find them and take care of them. Then they may say this goes farther up than them, and you end up going to the top of the military, then find out it was some rich guy who paid a lot. Not sure, it's a WIP. 4. I'm okay with no VIP. I don't really plan on playing Roblox too much after the game comes out, but I figured most games have VIP so I might as well bring it up. Thanks for the input =)
