I'm working on a game that I think will be fairly unique and enjoyable. It will be centered around a player-driven economy. I've laid out a very simple strip of map with an arena and business square on one end, and an island full of raw materials and reagents on the other. I don't want to give too much away, because I'm paranoid about idea thieves, but basically the player will be able to make a living any way they want: By fighting and winning arena battles, betting on arena outcomes, selling equipment to combatants, selling consumables like food to everyone, gathering materials to sell to shops, (possibly) fighting bandits and monsters on the resource island, etc. Would this be a game that you might enjoy? And do you have any advice or ideas that could make it better? I'm not an expert on economy but I think I know how it works. A few pointers would be helpful though.

ohai Game focused on economics? ROBLOX is catered towards a younger player base audience, so I might not think that many players will find it fun, but instead, challenging and more frustating. ;3 ☜▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☜☆☞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☞ - Candymaniac, a highly reactive substance.

Sounds good, but you making the game far to vast and people will get lost and lose focus on the main objective. It's nice to make the game non-linear, adds more replayablity, something anygame maker would happly get their hands on.

The only issue here is appealing to a younger audience, like in any game. But, there's still the older audience, and as long as its a good game, older people will probably play it.

Woops, I misinterpreted the game haha. With this, I won't find it frustating for the younger audience, since a player-driven economy ain't frustrating. I thought you were talking about an actual business monopoly / tycoon type of game in where you make your own company *ahem* (free idea) and rise in a real-world, evolving, player-driven economy. ☜▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☜☆☞▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬☞ - Candymaniac, a highly reactive substance.

if its good it shall still receive a daily amount of about 200 visits a day from an older audience. base it off of 'the conquers', sim-city, and grepolis. make it so that you can mine and farm for resources and food-stuffs, have the ability to generate soldiers, tanks, and weapons for your little soldiers. also have the ability to develop power lines, and power plants. have the ability to generate a port and airport. make it both battle and city oriented.

Candymaniac, thanks for your input, and no, the business aspect won't be too complex, and you don't have to own a business at all to play the game. Business owners will pretty much just buy materials from gatherers and use their business's resources (that all come with it) to create tools and items that will be consumed by players with other lifestyles like fighters, gatherers, and possibly adventurers. There will be an automated market for essential goods and common items in case no one has made a business for that stuff. R3gebiscuit, I think it will be pretty straightforward and not too complex. I'm going to try my best to make sure there are ways for the simpler minded to play. OrdinaryDarthvader, thanks for the responses but I think you've completely misunderstood the point of my game. It is not a real time strategy or active combat game. It's mostly about finding clever ways to become rich and powerful, with opportunities for combat and exploration.

Love the idea. To make this more... "Appealing" to kids, add things where they can buy, like a toy or something. Or make money all shiny and glowly. -_-

Ordinarydarthvader, for the second time, it's not going to be anything like the conquerors. It's not a RTS. I will not just "screw the kids". It's going to be playable by hopefully all ages.
