I've used the ultimate edition. It's nice, it has some extra convenience features, except almost no new c++11 features.

I barely use 2010 anymore. It's a lot nicer looking and cleaner to code in/.

@pig: Maybe they'll be implented later? @snox: Yes, it's downloadable - for now. @trapping: Really? Any other changes? Extra features?

meh much much faster (no seriously) inc intellisense windows 8 support ofc windows 7 phone support ofc .net 4.5 (patches over 4.0 though :o) support for some (not all) CPP11 features (new loop shizzles for containers and enum classes notably) much nicer looking than 2010, less clunky

Now that is what I wanted to hear. I know the look, but not really what was inside, duo to those videos only showing the look and visual blahs. ^^

"Yes, it's downloadable - for now." 1. Will it remain free? 2. Will the current download continue to recieve updates once full product is released?

@snox: 1) Hope so, or they will probablyu make an express version or so. o.o 2) I don't know, hopefully it will.

It would be cool if you could press a button and let VS set-up the libraries (like dor DirectX, OGL, SFML, ...) :3

"@pig: Maybe they'll be implented later?" No, they won't. They tried for a long time to implement variadic templates, and couldn't do it, so other C++11 features got delayed. I was hoping for constructor inheritance =/

"Will it remain free? Will the current download continue to recieve updates once full product is released?2 expires in january or something then there's 90 day trials of each version and no it won't receive updates because it's a prerelease and it will be deactivated

The real product is worth thousands of dollars, so it definitely will not be free forever.

"No, they won't." Not in the initial release of VC11/VS2012, at least. Microsoft won't want to see themselves shown up by GCC or clang (which both have a far more extensive C++11 implementation, and clang having a nearly complete one), so I expect over the next year or so they'll be working to have a better implementation. I would assume it wouldn't end up being added to VC11, though, they'll probably push it to VC12 and Visual Studio 2014 (which should be the next edition if they follow their current release pattern. I would guess they won't want to push a VS2013 because that would be too soon, and they also don't want to wait too long to get an update out there for all the eager programmers wanting to use some of the great and yet-to-be-implemented features of C++11 on Windows).

@poke no, pretty sure they're pushing a C++11 update into VS2012 at some point.

I haven't seen it yet, I'll check it out sometime this week. I still use it for C# and like it a lot.

"I still use it for C# and like it a lot." If you only use it for C# stick with 2010. you'll be running .NET 4.5 and not 4.0 otherwise and you can't easily unpatch it.

"you'll be running .NET 4.5 and not 4.0 otherwise and you can't easily unpatch it." I fail to see why that's a bad thing and why you'd want to unpatch. The .NET framework is backwards compatible with all previous versions, and Visual Studio allows you to develop for older versions, so you could still develop for 4.0 in VS2012.
