Think of it like layers of bricks- when you're character is in one dimension(layer) he can only see/interact with the bricks on that dimension.
At one point the two layers connect. Think of it like a portal, where if you pass through it you change dimensions.
I know what you're thinking, how you can just use a teleporter to go to someplace far away- but still, it would make it so much easier.
Example: LIKE IN NARNIA!
You can check the back of the wardrobe- no opening. Look all around you, the dimension of the workspace you're in. No matter how far you look in that dimension you can't see any of Narnia, it isn't placed someplace far away.
But when you look inside the wardrobe where you can walk through the portal, it has a whole world. |

First off you don't understand.
I'm talking like a portal.
You can look into it and see the world, but you can walk around it in a small space.
Think of it like the tardis in doctor who. It's just a telephone box, but you can look inside and see the giant room. |

Support.
It'll open up a new world, no pun intended, for game developers.

This makes no sense whatsoever. |

Ah, I get it. And by the way, a teleport would be easier anyways. |

Amazing example.
This would help builders alot and would be a cool feature to have.

So like a portal from Portal? No support. Too laggy. |

I see where you're going, but teleporters work just as well, just without seeing where you're going. It would make a lot of lag to have 200 bricks in one brick. Just script the illusion. |

@Z007:
Nope. Not laggy.
Try looking at the teleportation in tekkit?

Support. Imagine doing a game like that Wolfenstein game from 2009 but in ROBLOX, with this. |

Adding onto my previous post:
Yes, the idea *IS* good. I have suggested it myself. Don't get me wrong there.
BUT.
Your system is not.
Your way of doing "dimensions" (I prefer the term "planar walking" because "plane" is shorter, and also because I am an MTG nerd) causes paradoxes. Basically, what if something is in dimension A AND B? What if you want it to be an OR circumstance?
I suggested your system back in 2010, and a guy named Taslemguy (A very amazing scripter for his time and ever. He puts a lot of people to shame with his work. Definitely in the top 10 of best roblox scripters ever.) Pointed out all of the paradoxical flaws and problems this could cause. What if the person is in a plane of A, a script changes it to B, and then he can't find a spawn? |

Reset
OR
Because there is already a plane B it stops the action. |

But what if I don't WANT it to stop?
Or, what if I want the plane you're in to save across lives?
It's an awkward suggestion that can only be answered with personal preferances. |

(Roblox stops the action) |

There's a Plane A and B.
Roblox identifies them both.
In the game they can't be changed by a script
OR
when the dimension is tried to change in a script it stops
OR
Like there's different workspace dimensions.
Because the dimension is part of the game it can't be changed. |

Or, a better example, sorry for ninja'ing you a bit more:
Ever played one of those ghost games where you have a limited eyesight, and whatever you cannot see doesn't exist? I see this as a way to make those games.
So, That requires syncrhonization of quite a few different blocks, rapidally changing it's planar tag (what plane/dimension it is in)
That requires boundaries of planes, not determination of a block.
Put short: Setting planes to a boundary (Everything inside the boundary of plane X is in plane X) instead of manually determining all of the bricks's plane and synchronizing them is a lot easier and fixes so many problems.
Also, having universal planes (Planes in which you can interact with every other plane) Fixes the problems of paradoxes. |

Well think of it like layers on Flash or Paint.
You can set them to visible- in which all layers are composed in one piece.
You can put some transparency on them- you can see it but it's not exactly there.
AND you can have the two layers work together at a point where you can switch between them.
I think you're somewhat getting the concept, but what you mean by "ninja'ing" reallt isn't- cause there aren't any paradoxes or errors.
It's like multiple workspace's, your character can switch inbetween them by walking through parts where the two workspace's (dimensions, layers, planes) connect.
They overlay each other.
AND
Unless you go through a portal you stay in that workspace dimension/layer/plane.
So that means if you have fly tool in a game where you're supposed to stay in one area- and you placed a special area somewhere far off in the workspace- the player with the fly tool can get to it.
BUT
If you have that special area in a different dimension- no matter how far the guy fly's he can't get to it. |
