How about a background tool? Instead of using skyboxes, there would be a tool tha looks like a picture frame. When you click it, it asks you for a texture id. After putting the id, BAM! You have a background! If no support, explain why.

But you can put textures into skyboxes in the lighting.

But with skyboxes, you could go out of it with a fly tool or something.

You can't go out of it with a fly tool. The sky-box is auto-kill.

There is tools that could make that happen. It's just that it would be more confusing then what you are saying now. Good idea!
