I. Introduction
Have you ever wanted to hide something really well? Or have a place for your friends,
but in the smal place as another game? Multiple Workspaces could solve this problem
quite easily.
II. What it is
Multiple Workspaces is just that, multiple workspaces. A Workspace is a child of game
that you can acces through scripting or the Explorer. However, you can only have one
Workspace per game, I think that this should be changed.
Example:
Bob is making a space game, but really wants to make dimensions in his game. (Bob
is NBC, so he can only have one game active) Bob wants to make a Forest Dimension, a
Mountain dimesion and an Ocean dimension. Normally, Bob would have to do this with
teleporters and clever wall placement. This is where Multiple Workspaces would help.
Bob makes a script that teleports the player to a brick somewhere else, no big dea,
right? Wrong, he accesed the brick like this:
game.Workspace2.teleporter
Touching that brick made him teleport to a diffrent workspace.
Another Example:
This would work like dimensions, you can never find the other workspace, unless spawned
in it, or teleported into it.
If you are in this dimension, nothing would change, but the parts in this workpsace,
so leaderstats would carry over to other Workspaces.
Also, this may cut down on lag. How? Simple, the computer would only have to render one
Workspace at a time, opeing it up so builders can add more bricks to thier game.
III. Why this would help
This would help because it would be easier to make dimensions in a game, have a whole
new place just to friends, but in the same game, and would be easier to make detailed
games. Yes, this one is short.
IV. Q&A
Wouldn't scripts break?
Yes, some scripts would break, unless game.Workspace reffered to the current Workspace.
Then, game.Workspace2 would reffer to that Workspace, from another Workspace.
V. TL;DR
Multiple Workspaces. |

Q&A stand for Question and Anwser.
TL;DR stands for Too Long; DOn't Read. |

Also, the scripting part mentioned was just an idea, shoot down that part if it is flawed. |

I don't do much with Lua, but... Wouldn't they still work in the same way as it picking up and "separating" game.Lighting from game.Workspace ; allowing you to go ahead and use game.Workspace, game.Workspace2, and so on?

also this would help if it was added with this idea

Yes, but for scripts not to break, they could reffer to the current, unless they used specific name. |

Come on! This isn't that long! |
|
|
No support.
What game engine in the world has multiple workspace, and, all of this could be achieved by simple scripting anyway. Make a model called workspace2 and there you go. Then you can choose which model you want to use (i.e, hide the rest of the parts) and you removed lag just as well. |

At the moment, as far as I know, no game engines do. But this is why ROBLOX should be the first. I also don't think you understand my idea. Both Workspaces would exist at the same time, but the computer would only have to render one at a time, but players could be in either Workspace at any time. |

Could slow down the system and damage computers, but it's still a pretty genius idea.I'll support it. |

Wouldn't you need to load both workspaces at the same time if you were to teleport or spawn in either of them? |
|
SPIRITnUJoin Date: 2012-03-07 Post Count: 1875 |
You would only need to render each one at a time, I think.
Not a genius with computers, so I'm not entirely sure. |

I think this might break some things, so I don't know. |

@Maj
What would this break?
Not trying to be sarcastic, just want to know. |

101% Support!
This could be huge! So many ideas could come from this!

I actually got this idea from a guy whom I forgot the name to. Maybe he will see this, if he does, hope he likes that I explained it a little better! |

I'm not a scripter or builder, what is a dimension?
And, also, why not use the teleportation? It's proven effective before. |

Lien; the teleportation is limited.
And, if you make a large enough game, even with teleportation, it will lag severely.
