(A few things added)
Since FO3 is regularly bashed by classic Fallout players, I'm making this list to reply to ANYTHING regarding ANYTHING about FO3. Please don't assume I'm an Fallout 3 kiddie. I mean, I am, but I love the classic Fallouts just as much as you do. I just love FO3 and will defend it with my knowledge of the Fallout universe.
"Why are the Enclave in there? THEY DIED IN FO2! Their armor is dumb, too."
The Enclave are the remnants of pre-war USA. It makes sense that they would have some sort of presence in the former American capitol. Since DC was hit harder, however, they couldn't get into contact with their prosperous Western chapter. (In the Fallout NV DLC "Lonesome Road", the Eastern Enclave still thinks the Western Enclave are still existing and occupying their outpost in Navarro, where they sent ED-E)
I also think the new Enclave armor is bad ass, despite not being as advanced.
"The Enclave had the same exact goals as the BoS! Why are they the bad guys?"
I can get wondering why the Eastern Enclave still existed, but this is just ignorance. This is taken directly from the official Fallout wiki:
"President Eden’s secretive plan all along has been to rule over an America of the "pure", free from any mutation. He has learned of a ridiculously ambitious experiment known as Project Purity, and knew the time to strike had come: his Enclave forces would "reclaim" the Jefferson Memorial. By controlling the purified water, Eden would control the Capital Wasteland, and the rest of the country eventually. What better way to administer modified F.E.V.— which kills anyone infected with any form of mutation—than through a deceptively clean water supply?"
"Super mutants in the East? HOW DUMB CAN BETHESDA BE? HOW ARE THEY THERE!"
You know the Vaults are social and scientific experiments, right? FEV (a government project, no less) was released into the air to test it's effects. It makes sense if you research the lore.
"Feral Ghouls are Bethesda's attempt at adding zombie-like enemies to the game. Too much radiation just makes you glow, not go crazy!"
A bit harsh, considering there are variants of Feral Ghouls in the first Fallouts. Only Glowing Ones are created by too much radiation, and there are both feral and normal versions of them. I'm also pretty sure Feral Ghouls are brainless and mad versions of regular ghouls.
"The BoS are stupid. They aren't the good saviors, they guard technology, not babysit Wastelanders. This was just Bethesda's pathetic attempt at adding good guys to the story. The Outcasts are also dumb and ill-thought of."
The situation out west wasn't as bad as it was in the east. When the Brotherhood arrived, they saw the situation and decided to break orders and help the wasteland. Similar storyline with FO Tactics. The BoS still holds their mission to recover pre-war tech, just not the way they should. Also, seeing at the start of the paragraph, the BoS is the only thing holding the wasteland together. They aren't even really heroes, they just fight the super mutants whenever they can. The Outcasts are the true BoS, but since they are in the minority, they call themselves the Outcasts and wear special armor.
"Why is DC still even there? It should be leveled to the ground!"
If you've ever seen pictures of Hiroshima, it's very similar. I think Bethesda based the atmosphere on it. I also imagine the DC had some protection from Atom bombs and ICBMs, like Vegas did.Very few buildings in D.C are even capable of being entered. Just because they still stand doesn't mean they are still stable and unaffected.
So yeah, bash FO3 with anything regarding my comments, expect to see this replied to you.

Then don't read it? I don't see the point in "tl;dr"ing all of my threads.

Oh, here's a question. Was The Pitt (and, for anyone who lives in the D.C. area, the Capitol Wasteland) accurate to the actual area's geography? |

@amazing
Fallout 1 and 2 are RPGs with turn based combat, 3 and New Vegas are RPGs with FPS combat.
@altair
Bethesda may not be so good now, but Fallout 3 had quite a bit of depth in it.
@JJO
The Pitt and Point Lookout are my favorites. Broken Steel added more content that really should have been in vanilla FO3, Zeta...eh. The concept of aliens are fun, but the DLC was average at best. Anchorage was fun, though it was noticeably rushed. A Fallout CoD, if you will.

One of the Fallouts. 3 if you like a personal story, a heavy post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and overall charm. NV if you like an RPG with an ocean of content, a less-linear story, and broader gameplay options.

I take back what I said about OA. The whole thing was in a simulation, so that may be why the lore was contradicted a bit.

My Favorite DLC's in order (If i recall correctly)
1. The Pitt - Loved the atmosphere and messed up government they had (Well, I'd assume it's some sort of government).
2. Mothership zeta - Pretty cool meeting people from other time periods and killing aliens.
3. Point Lookout - Loved the swampy atmosphere, and the little illusion walk.
4. Operation Anchorage - Liked the appearance of the Outcasts, and the cool armor you get. |

I still prefer Fallout: New Vegas. |

I really enjoyed Fallout 3 (It was my first Fallout game, haven't play 1 or 2), but when Broken Steel was released, it wasn't compatible if you already beat the game, so that really was a bummer. I prefer FO3 over FNV because I liked the fundementals of 3 better. And FNV just overdid a lot of factors, like bullet types and whatnot. And I really didn't get the purpose of the BoS and Enclave. But I like the BoS armor more.
I've played FO3/FNV on Xbox 360 and PC
I prefer PC because you can get over 30-40 frames per second (Provived you have a good computer) and you can do custom game mods like Drivable Cars and Customizable Guns. And don't hate if you're a console/PC lover, because many different platforms have good exclusives and advantages. |
