Currently, Cylinders don't act as you'd expect. They look like a cylinder but have all the physical properties of a sphere, which leaves builders with unexpected results in their buildings.
To make it easier to understand, when you walk on a Cylinder in Roblox you go through it and walk on it like there was a ball inside it. Here's a representation of what actually happens, just to make it clear what's currently going on: http://www.roblox.com/Cylinder-Physics-place?id=109953795
If you open up the previously posted place in Edit mode, you'll notice there are cylinders in the game, each will a ball inside it. The ball is actually only visual so if you tried to walk on it nothing would happen, but if you were to visit the place it's a different story altogether. Attempting to walk on the cylinders will make it look like they have collision turned off (meaning you can't walk on them) while the ball inside each cylinder CAN be walked on, when it is quite the opposite.
Fixing this to make cylinders act as expected would provide builders with a much greater control over their place, and make many aspects of building simpler. One example of this is one of my own places (I promise I'm not just trying to get place visits, just giving examples xD) where a large object was made with Cylinders, but due to them not behaving as expected this doesn't work correctly and causes users to walk through the floor and walls of the object. (Place: http://www.roblox.com/Dusklight-Club-place?id=54794501)
I believe making this feature work as expected would be a great thing to work on. It has been in it's current state since introduced to Roblox years ago, and I believe it's time to get it fixed. It would probably benefit everybody who plays Roblox in at least one way, and open a whole new door to building. |

1- your username is absolutely amazing.
2-I see your point; and I agree that cylinder should behave like... Well... Cylinders...(Derp)

What is cylinder physics? If it involves building, I'm usually screwy at it. |

Cylinders are merely a mesh on a ball. I want Roblox to actually make a cylinder shape.

@800imawesome: Well said, that's exactly what it is. If I had wanted a sphere shaped as a Cylinder, I would have used a CylinderMesh.
@Whosoever: 'Cylinder Physics' just describes how a part with it's Shape property set to 'Cylinder' interacts with other parts. |

Support I guess. Cylinders haven't bothered me that much

Without question. |

Are you using mesh's?
If you use the actual "circle" or "cylinder" type. It functions as a actual cylinder, |

"If you use the actual "circle" or "cylinder" type. It functions as a actual cylinder,"
No it doesn't. Using a Cylinder part shape acts as though you were using a sphere. You can validate this claim by either creating a test yourself or looking in the Cylinder Physics place I posted in the original post.
Also, bump in disguise. |

Yes,support! Even though i don't like making big games, i like making small temples and such. One time i used cylinder to make a giant castle with it and when i clicked play, what do you know the whole thing made out of cylinders collapsed |

Support, as I am a large scripter/builder for my groups and this really bugs me on my projects, such as raid/defense type places that rely on cylinders for boundaries. |

Would be nice if they also had their own resizing ability, so that resizing a cylinder in one direction doesn't resize it in all directions, allowing for much more compact cars.

Here's a reply on this topic from Shedletsky: "Another thing we want to nail is vehicle physics, which pretty much requires cylinders for tires. No one is working on it yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if something happens here relatively soon."
@frauthunder: I never left the forums. I just tend to be rather seclusive these days. Thanks though. :P |
