1. Get one with windows 7 (no, not windows 8 or mac)
2. Base your purchase purely on the specs. Check especially the speed of the HDD, the cores/GHz/caches of the CPU, perhaps benchmarks on the exact GPU it uses (do not get integrated gpu!) and possibly memory frequencies and such if you can find them from the webs.
An SSD HDD is really fast but can be expensive.
You should look at tens of different laptops of various brands, google for benchmarks and ratings of the companies, laptops and single components.
After you have done that, you can now do it faster, which is needed because while you were doing this there have been new laptops coming out.
So find those new laptops and do all the comparisons again.
