An idea I have:
When you post more than twice in 6 seconds, you have to enter a captcha code (the one when you fail to enter your pw too many times). If you spam again, you have to enter another code and will be banned from the Forums for 5 minutes. If you spam right after being unbanned, you'll be banned for 10 minutes. If you spam a 3rd time after being unbanned, you get banned for an hour. This would help people legitimately post and not spam while not having to remove post count.

Some botters hide and aren't noticed until they've hit an ENORMOUS amount of posts. Example: theAfterParty
So mods can't do a lot about some botters. Post count is a nice thing to have in some cases but the fact that it's causing many negative effects is why it should be removed. |

There is a downside to this, but it's only going to happen for a short period of time due to backlash.
I agree with this fully though. It took me 2 years to get to 10k and I just forum for the fun of it so post count doesn't really matter at all. It's just there for the pointless hierarchy.
I even think the forum needs to be stripped down to the bare minimum; only keep what is required to actually help the mods moderate easily and to get rid of mod bots, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people would disagree. |
