I agree with Tato here. I know Scotland would've had until 2016 to get things together, but I don't think they could give everybody Scottish passports, print Scottish currency, form a military, or anything else that would've been necessary if they became independent. This is my siggy. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

"@bung They would be freed from the oppressive British rule?" do you know how british politics work, or are you just guessing? there is no oppression going on. scots vote for their own parliament, and the british parliament. they have the exact same rights as englishmen, and they benefit from being a part of the union. they wouldn't have the same economic stability independant as they would have with the UK

They're in deep sht anyway since they would've still been in the EU and the EU is at it's breaking point now, and the UK is hesitant to leave the EU for whatever reason.

I was thinking they would be better off under British rule but him saying oppression got me thinking back to 1760's cuz thats what I'm studying

Scotland would have been perfect for independence. Look at New Zealand I pick this as a good example because as mentioned on Flight Of The Conchords, "Like Scotland, but further". Scotland have a larger population, but only by 2million. They have public health. They have their own defence. They have their own currency. They have not been in economic turmoil. They are independent. One more defining factor on this which would prove my point, -Low Oil reserves in NZ. Scotland could have had these factors, AND 2 third's of Europe's Oil reserves, yet they would have struggled?

"there is no oppression going on. scots vote for their own parliament, and the british parliament" Be a Scottish citizen and say that, you couldn't. True, Scotland votes their own parliament. They vote in the British elections, but barely have a voice in the matter: In 2005, Scottish parties won Scottish constituencies, Labour won the General Election. In 2010, the same constituencies were won by the same parties, the Conservatives won the General Election.

The UK are having another referendum but this time for the EU. I have already made my decision and I'm voting No. As damaged it may be, the EU still have a steady hold of peace. If the UK, one of the biggest nations of the Union leave, well, you can probably figure out the rest.

"Scotland would have been perfect for independence." no it wouldn't have "Look at New Zealand" new zealand was never a separatist country "Scotland have a larger population, but only by 2million." ok "They have public health." funded by england "They have their own defence." which is a part of the british armed forces "They have their own currency." they use the pound, which is the british currency "They have not been in economic turmoil." uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes they have. "They are independent." they are autonomous "One more defining factor on this which would prove my point, -Low Oil reserves in NZ." you are not proving your point "Scotland could have had these factors, AND 2 third's of Europe's Oil reserves, yet they would have struggled?" yes they would've. they are a population of five million who are sustained by the 50 million living directly below them

"In 2005, Scottish parties won Scottish constituencies, Labour won the General Election. In 2010, the same constituencies were won by the same parties, the Conservatives won the General Election." gee i wonder why. maybe it's because five million people in the north shouldn't determine how life operates for the 50 million in the south. i don't like david cameron either, but it is absolutely absurd and an affront to democracy to suggest that scotland should have more of a vote over the rest of the UK "If the UK, one of the biggest nations of the Union leave, well, you can probably figure out the rest." the UK was not a founding member of the EU

"Oh wow, this will take me all day with your halfwit arguments. "new zealand was never a separatist country" I did not say that they were. I use them as an example as they and Scotland are alike in regards land. "funded by england" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_New_Zealand Not exactly "which is a part of the british armed forces" The Royal New Zealand Navy, the New Zealand Army, and the New Zealand Air Force, they are not a part of the British armed forces. "they use the pound, which is the british currency" They use the New Zealand Dollar. "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes they have." I have been a little careless with this point as there was a worldwide recession. But as I said, they weren't in any specific turmoil in the case that they needed a bailout. "they are autonomous" Though they have signed a declaration of independence. "you are not proving your point" I did in the next line. How would Scotland be in such an economic disaster if we carry the same qualities as NZ if we voted Yes, with the bonus of a rich oil supply? "yes they would've. they are a population of five million who are sustained by the 50 million living directly below them" That is as effective as saying that Norway would have struggled because they have half the population of Sweden, who are right next to them.
