You're right.
It decreases the value and makes the owner not feel special for i.e. their game being endorsed by ROBLOX, then getting a "special" gift when somebody else can just buy that gift
If you buy the gift you shouldn't get the same prize.

The current system for earning gifts and being able to buy them if you missed it or something is just fine.

Some reasoning on that: Being able to buy the gifts provides an alternative to getting a gift for those of us with internet that only streams at about 5 kb/s.
