God damn...
All I can think about lately is how it isn't possible to give my BLOXian some real personality. Sure we can pay down to the last coin in the piggy bank and get maybe a few items that define us and play dress up all day, but when it comes down to it... that's pretty much it.
We walk the same, jump the same, we talk the same, we stand the same, we have the same /e actions, we have the same everything... all the time.
All this was fine with me at first. I was just like anyone else; fine with just going through the motions, not bothering to speak up unless the staff decided to make an update that stepped out of line. Even then it was just hopping on the hate bandwagon. Without it I wouldn't care about what I thought. Haven’t we all been that way before?
But then I had this cool vision... it wasn't much to speak on really, just a fully animated, deeply customized BLOXian, but the more I thought about it the more I would add to it, and the more I added to it the more it excited me, and the more it excited me the more I realized that I had to make an effort to make it happen.
Sorry for the long intro; I babble a lot. But without further ado, here it is:
Basically what my drawn out suggestion is, is simply to make the ability for ROBLOXians to have different customizations for the simple actions they do every time they play a game, like standing still, walking at normal walkspeed, slow walking (half normal walkspeed), running (double normal walkspeed), jumping, all that stuff. It's not a big step, but it's more than enough. And here's how I think it should be done:
Imagine it: ROBLOX adds a new category to the Catalog; it's called BLOXinality (or whatever I'm not good with names). And this BLOXinality category is filled with brand new sellables, and they fall into these subcategories:
- Walkstyle: How your BLOXian walks at default walkspeed (For most games that's 16).
- Idle: How your BLOXian poses when you're not moving them.
- Hostile: How your BLOXian poses when they are at less than full health and you're not moving them.
- Strafe: How your BLOXian stands when you’re all the way zoomed in and how they move.
- Talkstyle: What you BLOXian does when they talk, how they talk, and what their chat bubble looks like (Bubble chat and classic chat styles are altered, but are only visible when allowed in Configure settings as normal).
- Jumpstyle: How your BLOXian jumps.
- Runstyle: How your BLOXian moves at twice default walkspeed and above. (For most games that is -16 and below or 16 and above)
- Slowstyle: How your BLOXian moves at half default walkspeed to 0. (That would be for most games -8 to 0 to 8)
- Tripstyle: How your BLOXian falls when they're tripped (this one's iffy because the flopping around animation would change, too).
- Deathstyle: How your BLOXian dies.
Follow me so far? I'm basically asking ROBLOX to begin creating and selling custom animations for everyday ROBLOX player mechanics. You know, REALLY add some variety.
Don't think this is worthy? Well think of it this way: You're one suggestion away from animating your BLOXian in any way you choose. You could make your character swagwalk, arms folded and head down like a boss when you're standing still, or even have both hands resting behind your back in a headmaster-esque stance. You could make your BLOXian jump like a Super Mario parody, flip jump like a martial artist--the possibilities are endless. And you're just one support away. It's such a basic suggestion, but it adds so much more depth by really doing something very simple: working with what we already have.
Most of this is already possible to add. If not, all. It's been done in Animation Labs. It's been done in roleplay games (I remember a Naruto game that has your arms behind you when you're running). It's even been done in updates (the update that changed climbing animations, added breathing, etc). Some may even think since it's already been done in this fashion there is no advantage in doing it this way...

ROBLOX is all about upping its aesthetics, I know: Dynamic Lighting, new terrain, propping up animations already. I also know ROBLOXians are cool with that: Even the biggest 08er nostalgic admits that they'd miss the graphic updates if their lifelong dream of sending ROBLOX back to 2008 came true. So why not want this?
I can see it now: This update is added and dozens of new animations are now sellable for R$, a few even made free so all ROBLOXians can get in on this next level stuff. Soon every active ROBLOXian has been converted. And it shows in a big way. When you first enter a game after this update you notice something...
These guys look more alive than before. They're posing, they're not walking the same, they jump differently. And these guys look more expressive than before. You now can see a player's personality just by looking at their BLOXian's animations. You can look at a BLOXian who's standing still, arms folded, his head is aiming down, wearing Snake Eyes and headphones; he's looking cool, right? Could you do that before? And these guys are even funnier than before. You're playing Twisted Murderer and a guy dodging a murderer suddenly trips, but when he trips he pratfalls as it's his tripstyle right before he gets killed. LMAO! That's too good! And then you realize... you're one of them. Suddenly YOU look different than before. Suddenly you're that cool dude with the Snake Eyes on with your arms folded and head down, you're the dude pratfalling getting some good laughs just by being yourself. You're the dude with your own flair. You're no longer comparable to anyone else in any way. Even when you look exactly the same as someone else, people will know when it's you without even looking at your name. Is that a dream you can forget so easily?
Not to mention the moneyz! Ohhhh man ROBLOX can pull in some serious cash just by making a few new animations a week for a few months. Think about it: Items are in high demand. They make them all the time, thousands buy each item with R$ they bought with real life money. Rinse and repeat and there's some decent cashflow right there. But then think of this: They add an entirely new category presented that no one has yet but everyone WANTS to have. If they market it right (following this basic formula would be preferred) they can get R$ flowing into it from EVERY R$ buyer in ROBLOX! When they need a quick cash-in, this is the answer! When they need money on top of money, they can count on their animation sales. And just by jump starting a market for custom ROBLOX animations, and weekly updating like gears. This update can do so much good for their wallets and the game as a whole. It can do so much for ALL of us; it just needs a little help getting there.

ROBLOX has come across this problem many times and they found a solution. Just /e dance with a 3.0 package, you'll see. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? They don't have to make it perfect, just put that ROBLOX spin on it like they always do :D

Just so you know this thread got over a dozen support and only one no support, and it was only at the beginning of its lifespan ;) Feel free to go see what this idea looked like in its infancy and who supported the last thread, if that's agreeable to you.
Yeah this is a repost. Complain all you want, but just know that I had a good reason. The [awesome] people who were on the last thread were suggesting so many adds that a new thread had to be made to make sure they didn't go unnoticed, so here they are!
--New Adds! Now In Plain Sight--
"Repetition-B-Gone!" suggested by noobillneverbe: Deathstyles, tripstyles, jumpstyles, and talkstyles each come with a multiple pool of animations that are chosen at random when activated. The animations are all loyal to the original spirit and theme of the style. That way repetition can be avoided when necessary.
"Animation Set? You Bet!" suggested by ruin3Ds: Sets are to animations as packages are to body parts; you buy them all at once, but you can equip them separately if desired. Each set comes with one of every style.
"New /e command!" suggested by ragemagick: /e noanimations and /e animations can be used to go from your equipped animations to the old ones when you want.
"Permission to Transition?" suggested by ragemagick: Just for extra smoothness, each animation would have its own little quick transition animation and end animation, for when you start it and end it. That way there is a clear start and end of it, keeping the whole process as smooth as possible.
"The Falling" suggested by ragemagick: Jumpstyles along with a jump animation have a fall animation for the sake of extra smoothness.
"Too Much Of A Good Thing" suggested by Jascha: These animations can't be happening at all times, right? Sometimes that just isn't possible and would get in the way of things; maybe even break something. But not anymore! That's why the old animations are in effect when the player is holding a tool and the equipped animations are in effect when the player isn't holding anything.
"Able to Disable" suggested by noobillneverbe: Game creators can disable custom animations in game settings and pick specific styles and items they want want to disable. There is an icon next to the copylock icon that's green when custom animations are allowed and grey when they aren't. Of course this is at their own risk (they may lose some player traffic if they don't allow them).
"Prop Rotation" suggested by noobillneverbe: Some of the animations will have props--that much is clear. So basically what I think is that ROBLOX should make re-skins of these props and when someone buys an animation with a prop they get the original or one of the re-skins at random. You know, so each prop looks different.
Good ideas, you say? You know what you're talking 'bout ;D

I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone and anyone who read this post. It probably was far from the easiest post to read through so support or no support, the fact you even got this far is enough for me.
Please comment, and I would appreciate some suggestions for ROBLOX on what animation to add. For example:
"Ninja"
(when you sideways strafe, as long as you're moving there are only speedlines, and when you stop moving you reappear, when you forward strafe you clutch near your hip with both hands as if you had an invisible katana and when you're moving there is speedlines until you stop moving then you reappear still clutching the "invisible katana". When you backwards strafe there are only speedlines until you stop moving. Walkspeed does not increase. When you jump strafe forward it's a frontflip, jump strafe sideways is sideflip, and jump strafe backward is backflip. Remember: diagonal strafing animations are same as forward and backward)

If you land on a Humanoid they have a confusion animated gif above their heads--you know, birds flying around their heads, question marks, stars, anything--for 10 seconds {which does nothing})

I read the whole thing. This is truly a great idea, and you did a good job of suggesting it. You sir, deserve a cookie.
Just thinking of how ROBLOX will look with this update in effect gets me excited.
I don't really have any good ideas for custom animations right now, but since I'm tracking this thread I'll let you know when I do.

What it is: Basically when you go to chat something you take out a pot and take of the lid. Your bubble chat comes out of that pot, and the bubble chat is jagged. The classic chat can have a monster-esque font, too.

Oh yeah and I was also wondering about talkstyle: ROBLOX will have to do something extra to make sure it goes smoothly, no? So maybe if you're not moving it takes three seconds for the talkstyle end animation to happen, and if you start chatting again the end animation doesn't happen.

Just read the whole thing. I'm feeling a little bit insomniac right now.
The adds are really good; I especially like the "Prop Rotation" addition as it allows more depth to animations if the props can look different for each person. It's also a good money grab for ROBLOX: they could make certain skins better than others so people will buy over and over to get the good skin, they could release new skins that outdo their previous ones throughout its sellspan to reward those who wait to buy and make some people re-buy, even Limited skins are possible. I like that idea a lot.
Plus Strafe and Talkstyles = Good. Add.
I really hope ROBLOX does this update.

Ya ikr? Rare and limited skins for certain animations can seriously add yet another layer of depth with little effort and another wad of cash in the bank.
For example:
"'ONLY I KILL THIS!'" has a flute for the flute solo, right? Well they could make a ton of re-skins for the flutes and each skin is either commonly gotten or rarely gotten. For example:
Flute skins:
Wood - Common
Redwood - Common
Oak - Common
Blackwood - Uncommon
Darkwood - Rare
Emberwood - Rare
Elfwood - Rare
Magic Flute - Extremely Rare
Golden Flute - Extremely Rare
Everyone would aspire to get either the golden flute or the magic flute for their animation, and ROBLOX could make extra cash depending on how far they go just by retexturing every once in a while. Of course they can't be sold separately like normal re-skins or else it won't work, they have to put each skin in the same item purchase so there's that game of chance involved (so don't get any ideas of selling them seperately, ROBLOX)

Here's my serious response:
- His use of god damn was supposed to be an attention grabber and a way to amplify the power in his delivery. Of course it can backfire, but overall I think he used it well.
- How do you know he was cursing God. God isn't even capitalized in the title so if we want to get technical he may not even be talking about the Christian God or any specific God in general.
- You made it that way. Since no one else managed to take it that way it's obvious you went to great strains to.

God damn is not profanity. God damn simply means to tell God to damn something, or condemn it. It is bad to Christians because it is "taking God's name in vain," which is the misstep. Taking God's name in vain does not mean you are cursing himself. To take God's name in vain is to use his name for your own selfish desires (like damning something; as if you could channel God's wrath and realease it on your own personal target) or "in vain." I repeat, you are not CURSING God. You are asking him to damn whatever you're target is.

My newest idea:
"The Infinite-Course Dinner"
: Basically whenever you stand still for longer than 5 seconds, you sit down criss-cross applesauce and take out your dinner and eat it quickly. Each dinner plate takes about 2 seconds to eat and as soon as you eat it you take out another. This goes on infinitely until you move or jump. These plates are taken out at random:
1. Ramen Bowl w/ chopsticks
2. TV dinner
3. Rice Box
4. Kid's Meal
The list goes on and on. It's the PERFECT TAUNT XD
Type: Idle
Cost: 100R$
Description: Winner winner, infinite dinner!
And of course this animation has prop rotations. These would be the meal skin rares everyone wants to get:
- Birthday Cake
- Thanksgiving Turkey
- Telamon's Fried Chicken
- The Flaming Steak (a steak that's on fire)
- Dinosaur Egg
- Bowl of Octopus w/chopsticks
- Cooked Pig w/apple in mouth.
Oh yeah I also had an edit to talkstyles. They can definitely stay, but if they activate every time you want to chat they'd get in the way because they'd cancel other animations, so here's what I propose:
- Talkstyles are activated purposefully: when you begin to chat if you chat /t in the beginning of your chat you automatically begin your talkstyle animation once you send it. The chat is stalled until the animation gets to the stage where it's ready to send chats. As long as you type /t first you can still do /w, etc afterwards.
So there's team chat, whisper chat, and talkstyle chat!

I... I think you just suggested my favorite animation! XD
And, yeah, the Talkstyle add is a good one now that I think about it. Sometimes you want to chat without canceling another animation (for example, if I wanted to comment on how I was eating my dinner if I had your animation equipped XD). Unequipping your talkstyle is one way of doing it, but this is a good way, too.
And speaking of Prop Rotation, I had another idea:
"The Rare Reskin Showcase": Whether or not this works depends on how it's presented. You have to be aware of the rarity of skins or else it won't work, so I suggest all animations that have Prop Rotation now show a list of all the possible skins on its Catalog page. If they're new they have a "NEW!" text next to their icon. Rarity is also shown in a similar fashion to badges, and the skins and meshes that you have a hundred percent chance of getting with possible rares/the defaults have a "100%" in green letters shown where it asks for rarity (such as the default dinner plates in your animation). That way people can have an idea what they want.
