College rankings. Don't get 'em tbh Like, the University of Texas at Austin should actually be a top-20 university in the country and top-25 in the world AT LEAST, but it's not... UT College of Communication consistently receives top 10 rankings across the board by subject UT School of Architecture is #6 undergrad, #12 grad school UT School of Engineering is #10 undergrad, #8 grad school UT School of Business ranges from #1 in accounting to #8 for entrepreneurship, including #5 for marketing and finance UT School of Law is #15 nationwide UT College of Natural Sciences receives top 10 rankings across the board by subject UT School of Information is #6 nationwide UT School of Geosciences is #9 for grad school the list goes on, but although other colleges aren't as prestigious, they aren't really bad either.

I feel like as we delve into the 21st century, some Ivy League schools are beginning to get a bit overrated, such as Brown and Dartmouth, and some public schools are beginning to catch up, such as Michigan, (the school called "Cal" since Roblox hashtags are stupid), UCLA, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia Tech, etc.

Disagree. I think Berkeley and UCLA are overrated and I find it funny how they keep dropping in the rankings. I think UCLA is like 25 now.

As a whole though I agree. Honestly you can go to a public school and be just as prepared and pay so much less.

"Disagree. I think Berkeley and UCLA are overrated and I find it funny how they keep dropping in the rankings. I think UCLA is like 25 now." And what's your basis behind this? UCLA might be a little overrated but there's a reason Cal is called a "public ivy"

@jimbo The "Public Ivy" argument is nearly correct, but the University of Vermont's inclusion is a bit shaky. Nevertheless, Berkeley and UCLA are both as great as a lower-half Ivy League institution IMO.

Oh yeah, and Miami of Ohio's inclusion is also shaky. William & Mary is good so it is worthy enough to remain on the list

update from the PZV3 crew still eagerly awaiting my decisions from Wilson College Chestnut Hill College Ithaca College I think I may actually be able to go to Kutztown in the fall because the city gives a couple thousand dollars to people with disabilities to go to college and I'm going to emai#####ir financial aid office asking why I didn't receive any need based financial aid despite being in a low-income family sending 3 kids to college at the same time I'm only 5,000 short and with the money from the city and hopefully some persuasion to get need based financial aid I'm hoping to get that down to below 2,000 because then I'll for sure be able to go some older SF folks probably reminder Masterluke/Lumism and he's got into everywhere he's applied to so far Chestnut Hill - nearly free for him due to merit and need + he was offered the honors dorms Temple - got accepted into their most competitive class in history St. Joes Wilson College but he's really waiting for his University of Pennsylvania decision in April

What honestly separates Cal from the rest of the UC system? The riots? Legit almost all the UCs have quality technology so you can't really make that comment, basically all the professors are renowned in their field across all the UCs. Almost all the UCs are near the top in their field, didn't you just say UCSD was like top 10 for CS? What's the honest difference between 1 and 10?

I'm also pretty sure UCB was top 15 at one point and now they're at #20. UCLA I'm sure was higher and now they're at #25. Both are dropping (I'm no whiz at all what goes into the college rankings so if anyone can account for this drop I'd love to know).

"What honestly separates Cal from the rest of the UC system? The riots? Legit almost all the UCs have quality technology so you can't really make that comment, basically all the professors are renowned in their field across all the UCs." For Computer Science specifically, Cal's program is by far the most rigorous and presents much better internship opportunities like I was saying in a previous page. The reason Cal is always ranked so high, and they get great internships is because managers KNOW Cal prepares it's students the best out of any UC (for most subjects. Obviously Cal can't be the best in everything). "Almost all the UCs are near the top in their field, didn't you just say UCSD was like top 10 for CS? What's the honest difference between 1 and 10?" UCSD is anywhere from 10-20, but closer to 20 than 10. Cal is top 5. If you go to any school in the top 10-20, there probably won't be that much of a difference. But the disparity between 10 and 20 is a lot slimmer than between 1 and 10. Cal simply is the best UC, they prepare their students the best. With that being said though, of course we are just talking about the "mean" student, the average representation of the school. Your success is largely dependent on yourself, but going to Cal certainly increases your chance of success if you are willing to put in the effort.

Please name the "much better internship opportunities" and I'll name you a student accepted into these programs that are from a lower school. The thing is you're looking at a brochure from the school's website. As for top 5 or top 20, both will get you into the same graduate school if you pursue your education assuming you get a good GPA, standardized test scores, interview, etc.

You're gonna need ridiculous stats to get into UCLA out of state. But then again, it's almost a complete crapshoot once you reach a certain SAT score/GPA. Just try your best, but the UCs are experiencing MASSIVE drops in acceptance rates due to the sheer number of students applying.

A bunch of the UC schools are hard to get into from out-of-state, as California residents are prioritized (though every college in America wants to show they have geographic diversity so they'll accept some out-of-state and international applicants), so unless you're a top performing student with perfect scores all around and some extracurriculars/community involvement to back you up, don't expect to get in Here in Texas it's not as bad, though Texas and Texas A&M also prioritize Texas residents. Jimbo had a friend with great scores that got into a bunch of UCs if I can recall correctly but got rejected from Texas. However, I did my part and got in to Texas

Sorry to hear about that Jimbo. =( You can take solace in that I was denied there too for neuroscience. @Sir believe it or not it was actually easier to make it into UCB/UCLA as an out of state student. Reports came out last year about them wanting the out of state tuition and because of the leak they're accepting more in-state students over a couple of years.
