I couldn't agree more. They're supposed to be making participation in the economy more attractive and addictive, not making it nearly impossible. ROBLOX is making the big mistake of quantity =/= quality. Just because you got more players doesn't mean that's better. Especially when so few of the players come in ever actually go to premium. They don't consider the human element which is why they don't care that all their latest updates are trivial and controversial. They don't understand that most people lack incentive to participate in the economy at all because they make it so hard and they haven't modeled their game in a way to where continual consumerism becomes addictive. Most people just need a few hundred R$ to buy an outfit, some hats, and maybe a gamepass from their favorite game and never act on or feel an urge to buy anything else, because all they care about is playing games. And that reflects poorly on the game model. Less players that spend more is better than more players that spend less. And since the game itself isn't improving, the game model will never make a good net incentive or consumerism that can sustain the economy. Not saying ROBLOX will crash, but there'll be plenty more problems in ROBLOX's future. It'd be better if they finally gained this foresight and did something about it.

That's a really good point. I've actually never heard that one before. Very few people in ROBLOX feel inclined to actually be consumers, and the ones that do aren't continually motivated to continue making purchases in most cases. There aren't enough people actually into the buying anything aspect because ROBLOX hasn't made that an integral part of the game. By locking off the premium economy, they made people not have the drive or motivation to participate in it continually. Compare that to a economy system like R$ fission where you would get items more and more often as the economy exponentially grows (more money being generated from R$ purchases, more user created items and places and quests), and the rarity is established, the point becomes to continue to get more and buy more and spend more as well as play to get all the items because it would create a new standard of play. That's the one thing ROBLOX is too scared to do, but that's the one thing that will save them from imploding their economy by expansion. The amount of people with only free items is unacceptable. They're the majority in nearly every game server. This doesn't mean the game has stabilized by keeping them down, it means it's failed to bring them up, and in turn itself.

@ima Yep. ROBLOX expanded itself into a ridiculous proportion. Now it's either going to grow into the big business it's pretending to be right now or cataclysmic shrink back to its true size. It all depends on what they do with the actual game and economy in the next couple years.

@Sword "roblox is evil" Funny you'd say that because a brilliant collegiate of mine wrote a eloquent Master's thesis on the subject just the other day proving that statement once and for all with an impenetrable wall of logic that no one can deny! https://forum.roblox.com/Forum/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=203607358

ROBLOX probably doesn't have the manpower or resources to develop any meaningful or substantial updates. All of their updates have just been add-ons to existing features or tweaks to the site and engine. You guys are right that they need to grow themselves up to the proportion they're selling themselves at. They need to take some of the extra money people keep saying they're making and hire more staff and grow the team and HQ so it can actually handle all the expansions they're doing. ROBLOX may have expanded, but its mobile and XBOX ONE platforms are still low tier, with only a dozen or so games actually compatible with it. In most cases playing on either is worse than playing on a potato (trust me, I've tried). And the actual game quality itself doesn't compare to other games on their respective market. ROBLOX's scripting and building have improved immensely (games like Mount of the Gods, Temple of Memories, Life of an Otaku, etc), but their best scripted games are still behind the games in the market their expanding to, and their platforms both have some design flaws and compatibility issues already that need to be worked on. Instead of simply expanding for a quick profit, they should've expanded with more preparation to actually stay afloat. Upping the game quality (maybe add things like easier cut scene and menu templates in Studio, or a specific Studio for theater aspects of games, and making their engine easier to build actual storylines and multiple game modes on like the games they're now competing with), and designing a more infallible control scheme and compatibility set-up should've came first before they even thought of expanding. And now they've spent 2016 not really doing anything for the expansions, just piggybacking on developers. If the developers have to keep the game relevant with XBOX Live and iOS and Android they might as well just develop for XBOX and mobile considering the content they'd have to make would require the skills to learn to develop for those platforms anyways, and also it has a way bigger industry than ROBLOX's DevEx (that already needs some serious tweaks). My point is that ROBLOX's expansions gave them more players and profit but only because any expansion would do that (and it did more for other games that did it better). But now they went from big fish in little pond to small fish in a vast sea. And they need to find a sustainable way to structure themselves if they're gonna stay afloat in this new market. Because if it fails ROBLOX will take a huge hit. If they won't make better games possible, then they have to at least make the games a better sandbox (for example, by implementing my Place-in-the-Gear) or make a better game loop (for example, by implementing R$ fission). I don't understand how they can spend all this time on meaningless chat updates and accessory categories when there's bigger fish to fry.

@rend I've also played ROBLOX on XBOX ONE. With all due respect, it's awful. I really only play a few games on XBOX. It's so pointless I'd rather stick to PC. There's only about a dozen people on ROBLOX XBOX ONE games when I play (sometimes on compatible ones there's 100 or more on a game, but I don't see that often) and playing on XBOX is objectively worse than playing on PC. Just play on PC with an XBOX controller. It's not even worth the exclusives (my alt has them). And that's a good point. Even if ROBLOX games worked exactly on console like they did on PC, they're just not that competitive with other XBOX games because they don't meet the standard. Even in the indie XBOX game market even though they can succeed there the degree of success isn't worth all the resources and development put into it. Who cares about the "iterative development" excuse? Even in best case scenario when they get it working perfectly, I still can't see them getting any worthwhile return on investment unless all of their PC players move to XBOX One and there's a big enough amount of people playing on XBOX to spark interest. Even then, ROBLOX games still have a long way to go before they're at the level of XBOX games and mobile games. I've seen the best of ROBLOX games, the pinnacle of scripting and building, and I have to admit it's impressive. The problem is that's ROBLOX's Studio makes these games way too hard to develop, DevEx doesn't make the labor worth it, put the same labor in a STEAM game or mobile game and you'll get way more profits long term. The ROBLOX Studio also limits game design to a degree and ROBLOX games lack something huge--content. There's not enough real content in most games. I'm comparing them to STEAM, XBOX Live and Unity because that's the market they've expanded to. They have to make their games more competitive. And like you mentioned making them better sandboxes is one way. Replayability and infinite possibility are both two great ways to make up for lack of content. Also making a better business loop is another way, creating a system with better byproducts is important. I just don't think they have that mindset. Even if they make it there doing what they're doing, inevitably they'll have to do this to continue to grow.

Ha Ha Ha Ho Ho Ho The thread probably did not exist, if it did, why did he not allow replies so I could laugh at his silliness back then too. He can't even bump his own threads. And the thread was relevant to the greediness debate? Here's what's relevant to that: "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest." I like conspiracy theories though. Maybe ROBLOX can spy through our webcams at what we look like, and where we live, and is setting up camps to send ROBLOXians who post silly threads like this. Sorry, this is my Christmas spirit coming out.

@TriplePatty He didn't allow replies because it was a sub thread of his "Behold, New ROBLOX has come back!" thread, which he did allow replies to, but it got locked late 2014 I think because flame wars. I bet you don't even know what the thread actually was considering you doubt its existence so how can you know if it's ridiculous or not? How about you actually read it? There's mirrors linked all over this thread (i.e. zadfad's post), so why don't you go read the thread that explained CPM and RPM on ROBLOX and predicted tix removal way before anyone else.
